"Skyscraper" as written by and Brett Gurewitz....
Come let us make bricks
and burn them hard
We'll build a city
with a tower for the world
and climb so we can reach
anything we may propose
anything at all

Build me up, Tear me down
like a skyscraper
Build me up, then tear down
These joining Walls
So they can't climb at all
So they can't climb at all

I know why you tore it down that day
You thought, that if you got caught
we'd all go away
Like a spoiled little baby
who can't come out to play
You had your revenge

Build me up, tear me down
like a skyscraper
Build me up, then tear down
these joining walls
So they can't climb at all
So they can't climb at all

When madness reigned
and paradise drowned
when Babel's walls came crashing down
now the echoes roar
a story writ
that was hardly understood
and never any good

build me up, tear me down
like a skyscraper,
build me up, and tear down
these joining walls
so they can't climb at all

My InterpretationMy interpretation of the song, espescially in the beginning, is that he wants to build a skyscraper, so he can be on top of the world. But when others want to be on top with him, he'll tear the skyscrapers down, so only he is the best.

For the part: "I know why you tore it down."
He's telling his friend, that he tore it down, because he thought if people saw you, they would leave, and not like you.

i don't get the "When madness reigned" verse, although it's my favorite sounding verse of the song.

General CommentThe song is a Bad Religion cover and is about the story of the tower of Babel. The story is about a group of people who come together to make a tower to heaven so they could be closer to god. God, in order to prevent them from succeeding, made them all speak different languages so they couldn't communicate with one another.

General CommentHonestly, I prefer this version over the Bad Religion version just because, now that it's slowed down, you can just pay attention to how incredibly written the lyrics are.
