Tell me how long has it been
Since you've been here
(since you've been here)
You look so different than before
You're still the person I adore
Frozen with fear
All out of love but I take it from the past
All out of words cause I'm sure it'll never last
But now I'm not sure
I can't save you if you don't let me
You just get me like I've never been gotten before
That chilled from the pacific rim
That brought you this way
(brought you my way)
Do not make me think of him
The way he touched your fragile skin
That haunts me every day
I'm out of love but I can't forget the past
I'm out of words but I'm sure it'll never last
But now I'm not sure
I can't save you if you don't let me
You just get me like I've never been gotten before
Like I've never been gotten before
But tell me will this ever end
Don't disappear
But now I'm not sure
And I can't save you if you don't let me
You just get me like I've never been gotten before
Like I've never been gotten before

Seems like the lyrics are describing a case of unrequited love.
You really fall for a girl who understands you, with whom you feel you can be yourself. Shes not around all the time but when you see her it all comes flooding back. Shes with someone else and the thought of seeing them together makes you sick. The song also describes to desperate attempt to make her "see" you, and not wanting to give up. You feel that both of you are fully compatible so if she left her current partner for you, you would feel as if you were saving her, hence the line "And I can't save you if you don't let me".
Good song overall.
I think you've really hit the nail on the head there, that's exactly what I felt the very first time I heard the song, not least because it's exactly how I've felt for years!

past lives - love found again - timeless love and fixing the other person to be together, stronger, in this lifetime ie - if one or both of you is in a relationship when you find each other again?!?.... this is what this song means to me x if that makes sense lol x

It seems so clear to me what this song is trying to say that it's surprising none of these comments have got it. This girl clearly meant a lot to him "the person I adore", soulmates perhaps - "you just get me like I've never been gotten before", but she had her own issues and hurt him badly, playing him off against someone else - "do not make me think of him / the way he touched your fragile skin". And now she's come back into his life after a time away - "tell me how long has it been" and all the conflicted feelings she inspired in him after coming to the fore again, but at the same time he is realising that as much as she gets him like never before, they are never going to be together - "I've been saving these last words for one last miracle / But now I'm not sure".
So the song just perfectly evokes that sense of bitterness, longing, sadness and acceptance you feel when you realise that things are never going to be the way you want them to be. I find it incredibly moving because of that...both because it's such a well-written, well-sung and well-played song, but also because I too "am out of love but I can forget the past"
I agree whit you moast of the part...it is about seeing his ex again...but there is the part one last miricale - he wanted her to tell her how he felt he wanted to hurt her now whit his words-and that's the miracle, you just get me like I never been gotten before - thik that means she is just playing him now like he never been played before and decived...-this is bitter love in the end that he realized even he is out of love but he can't forgett how she messed him up...and he's happy to see her...

You fall in love with a guy, you fall hard. Your story doesn't work out, and you two grow apart. Years pass, but you never can seem to let him go completely. Each time you see him or hear his name, you feel a pinch in your heart & look back at all the moments you shared. You think you forgot him, but when you meet again, it's like all this time flew away while everything stayed the same. He's a whole different person, and you hardly recognize him, but somehow, when you speak, you're taken back to hundreds of memories. He's with someone now, and seeing them together breaks your heart. You realize how all the feelings you once had are still burning through your skin, and you're praying for one last miracle to make him come back to you, because you know inside how you know him best and could save him by making him happier than anyone could. In the end, you know that nobody ever could, or ever will give you the feelings that he was always able to give you, and will always be able to.

You just get me like I've never been gotten before Like I've never been gotten before
What do you think? Is it "get me" as in "understand me" or "fool/trick/leasd me on"?

I don't feel so much that it's about a person who never returned the feeling, but a ex-love (I'm out of love but I'll take it from the past). One that you felt you were happier with than any other, but something happened where it didn't work out for whatever reason. Suddenly you run into that person again unexpectedly (Maybe it's a bitter wind that chilled from the pacific rim that brought you this way) and though the happy thoughts returned, you still can't forget the bitterness leftover either.

It sounds to me like it's either about the woman being unfaithful or leaving and coming back and the man (the speaker/singer) is wrestling with the emotions of his love having been with someone else.

To me this song is kinda about all of the things the other people here have commented on but slightly different. I think it's about this guy who loves this woman but she has past issues, maybe commitment issues? So they've been together in the past but she keeps leaving him because she's afraid to settle down. So he is bitter about this, and the last time she was with him she cheated on him so he is bitter. But as he says she 'gets him' she understands him like no one else ever has before so he's trying really hard to make the relationship work, and he knows that she does love him but she's troubled so he wants to 'save her' to help her get over her relationship issues so the two of them can be happy together if only she'd let him. 'These last words' and 'for one last miracle' is his last ditch attempt, they're sortof his 'piece do resistence' his trump card to finally try to make her see that they could make it work.

I think this song is about a very troubled person that the singer/man loves and care for.I don't think it's exactly a lover of him maybe a friend a family member. even in the music video it's a about a runaway girl and her mother. not every song is a love song!!!!

All lyrics have different meanings to different people. For me this song makes me thing of girl that your so in love with "the person I adore" and you feel so understood by "You just get me like I never Been gotten before." But she gets scared, maybe commitment or maybe she has seen his weaknesses and she wasn't strong enough to accept him "Frozen with fear." She leaves. Her leaving is a weakness in her and he wants to help her but she doubts "I can't save you if You don't let me." He thinks of things he can say that should bring her back into his life, but his insecurities mixed with her fears and unwillingness keep him from saying what he wants to say. "I've been saving These last words for one last miracle But now I'm not sure." She tries to move on, maybe leaves him for another guy because she is vulnerable. That hurts him even more "Do not make me think of him The way he touch your fragile skin That hunts me everyday." He may have been hurt so much that the love is hidden but he is still in love with the times they had and he wants a chance to have those moments with her again. Well that's what it means for me.
