I won’t hurt your mother
I won’t hurt your brother
I won’t hurt another
I won’t feel at all
I won’t hurt your mother
No don’t hurt your brother
I’ll find other ways to
Know it’s all alright

Oh

I won’t hurt your sister
I cannot resist her
Oh I got a way to go
Before I leave
I won’t tell her anything
That won’t be necessary
I would like to
Buy you a gold canary

Oh
Gold, gold, gold canary

Slip away, so break it to you softly
Will you lay a curse to my name?
Fly away, fly today
As my hands work on the birdcage
You disappear into the air
Fly away, fly today
Slip away, so break it to you softly
Will you lay a curse to my name?
Fly away, fly today
As my hands work on the birdcage
You disappear into the air
Fly away, fly today

Gold canary, gold canary
Gold canary, gold canary
Gold canary, gold canary
Gold canary, gold canary
Oh
Gold canary

    My Interpretation
I think that it may be about a relationship in which he's always treated her like a beautiful creature and loved her and swore to everyone that he wouldn't hurt anyone, but always kept her caged like a bird. And it would be better if she were to slip away and leave, to avoid anything drastic. I think he just wants to try and let go and doesn't want to feel like she hates him for that.

this is probably way, way, way...way off. I think it might be about taking someone's virginity. Or at least have an intimate experience with someone who has never had one before. And this frees them. And the first verse is sort of explaining the person's good intentions.

im not quite sure what its about, all i know is it gets stuck in my head and i just keep repeating GOLD CANARY, GOLD CANARY over and over and over and over for like a week. maybe talkshowghos (cool name btw) it could be. like the second verse "I wont hurt your sister, I cannot resist her" hes talking to the brother mentioned in the first verse. its a difficult song to decipher. now its stuck in my head again.

    My Interpretation
The first verse seems to basically be saying: I won't turn into a psycho/serial killer in order to feel good or for my emotional release or something like that. He also seems to direct this sentiment toward the mother and brother of the girl introduced in the second verse. It felt to me like the second verse was about a girl he desires and in a kind of retro/traditional courtship way he's like: I'm going to give her a gold canary to win her over. He also says that there won't be the need to say anything because it will just be such a powerful gesture, which I don't know if it's correct or not, but it makes me laugh. Then in the third verse/melody change I feel like he loses her, but he's kind of accepting about it i.e. "as my hands work on the birdcage, you disappear into the air". He appears to even want her "to fly away, fly today". Could be completely wrong and I'm sure the cloud control guy has never even thought about such a deep interpretation, but that's what I felt listening to it!
