Distant stars
Come in black or red
I've seen their worlds
Inside my head

They connect
With the fall of man
They breathe you in
And dive as deep as they can

There's nothing you can do for them
They are the force between
When the sunlight is arising

There's nothing you can say to him
He is an outer heart
And the space has been broken

It's broken
Our love
Broken
It's broken
Our love

Is it far away in the
Glitter freeze
Or in our eyes
Every time they meet

It's by the light
Of the plasma screens
We keep switched on
All through the night while we sleep

There's nothing you can do for them
They are the force between
When the sunlight is arising

There's nothing you can say to her
I am without a heart
And the space has been broken

It's broken
Our love
Broken

It's broken
Our love
Broken

It's broken
Our love
Broken

It's broken
Our love
Broken

I stared at this song for like, ten minutes trying to connect it to the "Save the Environment" theme of this album, and I think I may have caught onto something. Maybe it's referring to the ozone problem and pollution. For example:

Distant stars Come in black or red I've seen their worlds Inside my head

(We can no longer see the stars at night because of all the city lights and pollution blotting them out and making it impossible to see them)

They connect with the fall of man they breathe you in & dive as deep as they can

(We destroy the environment and this will be our demise, with the help of carcinogens we use in everyday activities. When you breathe them in, it screws up your heath and when it says "dive as deep as they can" i think carcinogens actually affect the DNA in ur cells, so i guess they dive pretty deep...)

There's nothing you can do for them They are the force between When the sunlight is arising There's nothing you can say to him He isn't out of heart & the space has been broken

(There's really nothing we can do for the ozone layer, and it's the force between the sun and earth. Like, the sun doesn't mean to hurt us - so he's not "out of heart" - it's just the ozone layer's been broken)

Is it far away In the glitter freeze? Or in our eyes Every time they meet?

(Is the hole in the ozone in the North Pole — because the song “Glitter Freeze” states it’s “Where’s north from here?” [because he IS north and the north pole is freezin’ cold] or is the hole closer hitting closer to home — like every time we look skyward, it damages our eyes and bodies.)

It's by the light of the plasma screens We keep switched on All through the night While we sleep

(I think when we waste electricity by keeping the plasma tellies on while, we’re also releasing a bit of carcinogens, that adds to the hole.)

And finally, when he says “her” I think he means “mother nature” Idk if this makes sense to anyone, yes, no, mehbeh so.

It's about someone trying to deal with the modernizing world while experiencing an existential crisis. Wanting to be able to connect with humanity, but truthfully understanding that isn't going to be possible, because you are alone in your experiences of the world.

The Space Between has been blocked.

Distant stars Come in black or red
I've seen their worlds Inside my head

To me this is a reference to the other planets around distant stars that we view through telescopes. They are so small(not unlike our own sun) that they are barely visible//noticeable in the vastness of space. I think it is either that he has seen their worlds in his imagination, or that you are able to travel through space in your head. Maybe both.

They connect with the fall of man They breathe you in & dive as deep as they can

There is an unnamed party that is the focus of this song. THEY or THEM. I would assume that this is reference to the beings on these other worlds. "They connect will the fall of man" Maybe "they" are another sentient species that have been through similar experiences in their civilization's past. I imagine that they feel some sort of pity for us because they know what we're going through as a race. They breathe us in.. and dive as deep as they can. They are experiencing it with us, and pushing us towards its resolution.

There's nothing you can do for them They are the force between When the sunlight is arising There's nothing you can say to him He isn't out of heart & the space has been broken

It is what it is, their presence presents a conflict, brings about enlightenment. Now THEM has become HIM, maybe a reference to our concept to GOD or a divinity. He isn't out of heart// we are And the space between us has broken down. We can no longer even communicate with HIM We no longer allow the "divine life" to exist between I and You. It has become I and IT(Objectification)

Our love, our connection, has been blocked by our ignorance

Is it far away In the glitter freeze? Or in our eyes Every time they meet?

Where has the Love gone? Is it up in space (glitter freeze)(external) or Is it that moment, between I and you?

It's by the light of the plasma screens We keep switched on All through the night While we sleep

These days we are connected through our technology. We keep trying to manufacture the connectivity through objectivity, yet it cannot replace the connectivity with reality.

    My Interpretation

I did not know what this was about at first but now listening to it and looking at the lyrics (if these are in fact accurate) I think this song might be about a long distance relationship where both people only communicate through some form of telecommunications possibly skype or something. I mean I think this part of the song says it all "Is it far away In the glitter freeze? Or in our eyes, every time they meet? It's by the light of the plasma screens We keep switched on All through the night While we sleep." The only point of connection may be this means of communication and as such their relationship is sort of broken hence the name.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

When We Were Young
Blink-182
This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
