You're sharp as a knife and you fit like a glove
That is no way to live that is no way to love
Full of fear in your skin and the weakness in giving in
Your stabbed in the back but you feel no pain
Push the heaviest doors that you can't open
Yeah they tied me up and my body lies still, again

You're as bright as the sun and as calm as the wind
I don't know when you'll break but it's gonna be soon
If my will caves in, I'll be in the same boat as you

I've got the salt skin
Running to where he is
Never going to give in
Even with the strength
He's stealing salt skin
Telling me I'm winning
Wars they created
Just to understand
The meaning (of)

Hands on strings and my mouth open
Find the perfect words that I've not spoken
And I won't tell the truth unless you want me to

For all of the times that I lost my head
When it rolled to the floor and I found it again
But when it came back,
I didn't know my own name

I've got the salt skin
Running to where he is
Never going to give in
Even with the strength
He's stealing salt skin
Telling me I'm winning
Wars they created
Just to understand
The meaning (of)
Of, of

I've got the salt skin
Running to where he is
Never going to give in
Even with the strength
He's stealing salt skin
Telling me I'm winning
Wars they created
Just to understand

I've got the salt skin
Running to where he is
Never going to give in
Even with the strength
He's stealing salt skin
Telling me I'm winning
Wars they created
Just to understand
The meaning (of)

    My Interpretation

I think... "You're as sharp as a knife and you fit like a glove that is no way to live, that is no way to love"- He's sharp with words, living a bitter life. "Full of fear in your skin and weakness in giving in"- This one doesn't really need interpretation. She says it plainly, he's full of fear and has a weakness for giving in. This is his salt skin. "Your stabbed in the back but you feel no pain Push the heaviest doors that you can't open"- The reason for his salt skin: he's so used to being hurt; pain, that he expects it. He tries to break out of this routine of his, this negative outlook on life, but that's an obstacle (a heavy door) he can't overcome (can't open). "You're as bright as the sun and as calm as the wind I don't know when you'll break but it's gonna be soon If my will caves in, I'll be in the same boat as you"- He has a lot of potential, but he keeps to himself. One day though, he'll explode. It's not healthy, and she knows that if she gives in to negativity and isolation, she'll be in the same position. "I've got the salt skin running to where he is never going to give in Even with the strength"-now she has the fear and weakness for giving in in her skin, and she's headed towards his position, his way of life, but she promises herself she won't end up like him. "he's stealing salt skin telling me i'm winning wars they created just to undestand the meaning (of)"- Now this maybe a long shot, but to me, I think she's having an affair with this guy. And he's telling her, that she's winning wars they created, as in conflicts him and his girlfriend couldn't overcome, in other words its easier being with her..yet he's still with his girlfriend, so basically he's trash. Another reason she doesn't want to end up like him, a cheating saltskinned guy who has a fear of commitment and love. And she knows this affair is wrong, but she's drawn to it, she needs him even though she doesn't want him, and in this she begins to understand the meaning of...love, I believe. And she understands this is NOT real love.

"Hands on strings and my mouth open Find the perfect words that i've not spoken And I won't tell the truth unless you want me to"- The perfect words that she hasn't spoken, are the words that would end their affair... but she won't come clean unles he wants her to. He has a hold over her. I believe this is her weakness, her salt skin, letting him control her, almost like a puppet (Hands on strings and my mouth open).

"For all the times that I lost my head When it rolled to the floor and I found it again But when it came back, I didn't know my own name"- For all the times she's been in quite a pickle, so to speak, she got out of it somehow. This time its different. She's so far gone into this affair, she doesn't even recognize herself anymore.

All in all. She's in love with a dirtbag whose got saltskin(fear of commitment)and it's rubbing off on her. He's her weakness, her salt skin. And if she keeps this up, she'll end up like him. All the while knowing, understanding, that no matter what hold he has over her, this is NOT real love.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
