I might as well be a Japanese exchange student
Cause' people wouldn't know me, right when I show up
But then the thrill wears off, and then I'm alone
Until Beyonce rolls through town,
And I think that I can call and score a ticket
When I can't.

Cause' I don't know her, like you don't know me
It's a lonely world when it's all that you see
It doesn't matter if I got a good heart in me
This gets lonely.

I might as well be a Japanese exchange student
Cause' people wouldn't know me, right when I show up
But then the thrill wears off, and then I'm alone
Until Paul McCartney rolls through town,
And I think that I can get in on the guest list,
When I can't.

Cause' I don't know him like you don't know me.
It's a lonely thing when it's all that you see.
It doesn't matter if I got a good heart in me.
This gets lonely.

Last year I got the cover,
My phone wouldn't stop ringing and ringing.
They called in on my mother and that is saying something
Well maybe it's been quiet, my phone just picks up dust
Cause' it's all about who you know,
And not about if you really know anyone.

So, hey, be nice to the Japanese exchange students,
Cause' people wouldn't know them, right when they show up,
And they have found yourself in a similar place
Where you found you looked around and just saw loads of empty space.
And you were thinking how you don't know them,
Like they don't know you.
It's a lonely feeling after all that you do.
Got a good heart, got a good soul, what must I do to prove it anymore?
I got friends in high and low places,
And it's all the same to me.

I love the Japanese, I love the Japanese,
Those from Japan and overseas.
I love the Japanese, do you love the Japanese?
Those from Japan and overseas,
Those from Japan and overseas, like me.

it's a quirky song and at first i didn't like it but it grew on me especially the meaning, it's about not knowing someone and all you want is what they can get you. it's a lonely feeling when they don't know you but they just want something i really love this line, "cause' it's all about who you know, and not about if you really know anyone"

sucha great song:)! i think this song explains how when a new student comes, people get excited since its like a "shiny new toy" but the thrill eventually goes away and people might judge and everyone goes back to normal. so bryce is comparing this to himself how people might judge and get excited when they meet him but sooner or later its not that great anymore and how if they actually find out who he really is, they'd understand better what he means and stuff bc you dont know who someone is unless you get to know him. i love bryce so much and this song, the albums amazing<3333

What an awesome song. Even after getting past the exchange student metaphor (a quirky choice, but I think it makes the song even more easy to relate to) the song is incredibly relevant. It goes even further to suggest that we should reach out to people in this situation, especially when we are in positions to do the ignoring.

Definitely not the strongest TRS lyrics on the album, or ever actually, but the melodies are good and the musical aspect of the song are good. I feel as though he rushed the writing of this song, but who knows, it might have some personal effect on him.

Agree with everyone as to the meaning. Everyone feels liked and wanted when the're new but then the people surrounding them fade away and loneliness comes. Pretty much advises at the end not to treat people like a product or just as some sort of new toy, but get to know and understand every individual for what they have to offer. Great meaning behind the song, not his best writing.

i think the meaning of this song is pretty obvious, not really knowing anyone, just liking the "new" appeal, or so to say.

I actually like the lyrics, even the Japanese exchange student reference. but he really screwed things at the end, with the whole "i love the Japanese etc, etc," I know he just added that at the end to be like, this isn't a hit at the Japanese at all, so there was no way anyone could take the song offensively, I personally don't think it was necessary at all, but it definitely butchered the song for me regardless.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
