In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.

“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
I think this song's meaning can only be discerned if you look at this single alongside Uroboros. I recently read a blog posted about their two Nippon Budokan shows in January and it pointed out that the Saturday show began with "Sa Bir" followed by "Vinushka." The Sunday show ENDED with "Vinushka" followed "Sa Bir." The author of the blog post understood the significance of this and stated that it symbolized the entire cycle of reincarnation - a theme prominent on Uroboros. Their final set list for their Uroboros tour began and ended in a full circle.
Now, this is where "Hageshisa to, Kono Mune no Naka de Karamitsuita Shakunetsu no Yami" comes in. Obviously, one theme of this song is death. The phrase "repeating again and again" is perhaps a reference to the cycle of reincarnation. "The bright-red garden and decaying of ashes" could be a reference to Hell - or a metaphor for the realm one passes on to after death. The line "it covers itself in pure white" is the rebirth, or beginning of the new cycle that repeats "again and again."
The cycle of reincarnation is a prominent theme in Hinduism (correct me if I'm wrong) and if this single is linked to Uroboros at all, it would be symbolic of Dir en grey moving on to newer material. "Hageshisa to" contains references to breaking the cycle of reincarnation - thereby becoming free and reaching greater spiritual plateaus. Dir en grey wants to "destroy" the endless cycle of reincarnation, which they deem "the worst of existence." "The other side of death" could be considered a reference to what will happen after breaking the cycle; or, literally speaking, what new ventures Dir en grey will partake in.
Sorry for the wall of text but that's just the meaning that dawned on me after thinking about it. It's probably a stretch...but, hey, it's the meaning I'm taking from it. I just hope Dir en grey continues writing powerful music and that this single won't be their last.

Now that the full PV is out, I think you've got a huge amount of evidence backing you up, Dissonant. <br /> <br /> As I'm sure we know, the gist of the video is Dir en grey being eaten alive by insects. Them being devoured by bugs is probably a reference to the act of decaying/ decomposing, in which insects or decomposers speed of the rotting of the corpse by eating away at its remains. Obviously, decomposing is asociated with death, making a definite connection your opinion. Furthermore, Dir en grey is being eaten alive by the bugs, which could show that Life itself is what's decaying, as in "breaking the cycle of reincarnation."<br /> <br /> I never would have thought of that without your interpretation, so great work and thanks for shedding light on this song.
Um...no. The song is about the Japanese unit 731, in which horrible experiments were conducted on live humans, including vivisections and exposure to plagued flies. Of course, that's merely the tip of the iceberg, but still.
Um. Look at when I posted my INTERPRETATION of the song. February. No one really knew what it was about back then and still there is no concrete evidence that the song is about unit 731. Unless you can show me proof that a member of Dir en grey has stated that Hageshisa to is about Unit 731, then all anyone can ever do is figure out their own interpretation of the song and come to their own conclusions. Who's to say this particular song does not hold more than one meaning? That's the beauty of music.
Well I think kyo just enjoys writting about death and rebirth which are in MOST of his songs, but i agree with Dissonant. Music has more then one meaning and we wont truly know what the true meaning/meanings of the song is unless we ask Kyo and we all know he wont tell us, so let ppl come to their own conclusions ^_^
I read that blog, too! and i personally thought it was about reincarnation as a band until i saw posts about unit 731. now i'm torn. both seem like the sort of thing kyo would write about.
