"Young Blood" as written by Norah Jones and Mike Martin....
I'll pretend my heart's not on fire
If you steal my true love's name
Broke down subway in this city of spires
Tape your picture over his in the frame

We'll imagine we're sleeping revolvers
Shotgun wedding in a strange SoHo
Our chambers hold silvery collars
Gun down werewolves wherever we go
We gun down werewolves wherever we go

Midnight phone calls in the back of a Mustang
Creased white pages torn right from the spine
Kissed my neck with a crooked, cracked fang
You always hoped one day you'd be mine

Threw our fathers on funeral pyres
I'm not sure that we were playing a game
Busted gasket in a field full of liars
No one noticed we set five boroughs aflame
No one noticed we set five boroughs aflame

Young blood
Young bone
Old ghosts
Go home

Band of gold with a diamond implied
You wrote letters that you never sent
I made promises I'll always deny
Now we'll never know what the other meant

Watch is ticking like a heartbeat gone berserk
Lost the chance to wind the key
Roosters are nothing but clucking clockwork
Our fears are only what we tell them to be
Our fears are only what we tell them to be

Drown the last of our matches
Burn the rest of each other
You were strongest when I ached for breath
Through the thick of smoke we'll finally smother

[Repeat x5]
Young blood
Young bone
Old ghosts
Go home

General CommentI guess it's about a relationship that ended somehow , leaving questions to answer , but she is in a new stage with new blood and want to move on anyway

My Interpretationi like the song's melody, and how she often cuts each line in the middle.

all i can understand, though, is that the song's story is tragic. :/

General CommentWhen I hear this song I am reminded of the young, teenage years when you had your partner in crime and you would do crazy things because you had all of this passion inside of you.

You think you are invincible and could "gun down werewolves wherever we go". They had hopes for the future also, and he thought she would marry him with "always hoped one day you'd be mine." and "band of gold with a diamond implied."

They blew off their fathers and any advice they gave and "burned" all of the liars--youth are always looking for the truth in things like relationships, life etc. No one noticed them as their did these searches. Then with the chorus of "Old Ghosts go home", the memories of this frenzied and confusing time comes up and she doesn't wish to remember it.

Next is when she realizes that they made all of these promises that they never really meant--they were young and crazy--and that all that they did together could never be forgotten or reversed "lost the chance to wind the key" With "ticking like a heartbeat gone beserk" and "clucking clockwork"--she is aware of the time going by very fast.

They start to grow up and see their destruction and they burn themselves out and realize that they aren't good for each other. "You were the strongest when I ached for breath" and they went their seperate ways, "through the thick of smoke we finally smother."

General CommentI'm pretty sure she is reminiscing over a past relationship she can't fully recover from, one she will never forget.

    General CommentYoung blood
    Young bone
    Old ghosts
    Go home

she's trying to move on....she has gathered herself up from the reminiscent of her broken relationship into a stronger and a lively being. she doesn't want her past to keep tapping on her shoulder ,she doesn't want herself to be reminded of any of those things which keep her haunting..

My InterpretationSeems to me this song is about her having a fling with somebody while cheating on the person she truly loves. She burned through the town and the fling and then felt guilty about it and perhaps lost her love and wishes all of those old bones and bad decisions she made when young would go away.
