Man, this thing is huge.

The alarm clock starts in the morning
It's time to rise and go to work
The phone calls come, a jingle-ingle-inging
Man, it can't get any worse
Now my pillows are soft and my lover is warm
And here is really where I want to stay
I hit the snooze button, just one time
Long enough for me to say

Come on and kiss da baby bye bye
Please don't make da baby cry, cry
I got to know how much you want me
By the way you torture, tease and taunt me
Come on and kiss da baby bye bye
Please don't make da baby cry, cry (cry, cry)

Now, she doesn't want to wake up too easy
To me staring her straight up in the eye
I'm pushing up on her shoulder, whining like a pup
She says something about me being such a guy [such a guy]
Now, my baby girl's job don't require her presence
Til sometime around 9 or 10
Maybe she could be my sugar momma
I'm hitting the snooze button again, once again

Come on and kiss da baby bye bye
Please don't make da baby cry, cry
I got to know how much you want me
By the way you torture, tease and taunt me
Come on and kiss da baby bye, bye
Please don't make da baby cry, cry
I need to know how much you miss me
By the way you show you want to kiss me

Did I hear you say
(You wanted me that way) inside?
A lady never waits
(It's time for us to take)
A ride
Taking a ride.
Yeah

And the alarm clock keeps ringing
Doesn't seem to want to stop at all
Excuse me, please, while I grab it in my hand
To throw it hard against the wall

Come on and kiss da baby bye bye
Please don't make the baby cry, cry
A momemt of temporary pleasure
Is a moment without the measure
Come on and kiss da baby bye, bye
Please don't make da baby cry, cry
I want to know how much you love me
By the way you're gonna push and shove me
Come on and kiss da baby bye bye
Please don't make the baby cry, cry
I got to know how much you want me
By the way you torture, tease and taunt me

(Come on and kiss da baby bye bye) Come on
With your bad self (Please don't make the baby cry, cry)
I wanna be, I wanna be, I wanna be, I wanna be
(Come on and kiss da baby bye bye) Ha ha...
(Please don't make the baby cry, cry) Ow
(Come on and kiss da baby bye bye)

Kiss the baby.
[Oh, honey, I'm not that kind of girl, you know that.]
Pff, yeah right...
[Ooo, how dare you? Two nights since I last blew you.]
Ah man, I, you know, had a long week.
[Oh my God, did you wash your...]
Come on, come on, kiss da baby.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
