She just walked away
Why didn't she tell me?
And where do I go tonight?
This isn't happening to me
This can't be happening to me
She didn't say a word
Just walked away

You were the first to say
That we were not okay
You were the first to lie
When we were not alright
This was my first love
She was the first to go
And when she left me for you
I was the last to know

Why didn't she tell me
Where to go tonight?
She didn't say a word
She just walked away

You were the first to say
That we were not okay
You were the first to lie
When we were not alright
This was my first love
She was the first to go
And when she left me for you
I was the last to know

I'll be the first to say
That now I'm okay
And for the first time
I've opened up my eyes
This was my worst love
You'll be the first to go
And when she leaves you for dead
You'll be the last to know

I'll be the first to say
That now I'm okay
And for the first time
I've opened up my eyes
This was my worst love
You'll be the first to go
And when she leaves you for dead
You'll be the last to know

Sarge4826 kind of hinted at it, but let me elaborate...

She just walked away Why didn't she tell me And where do I go tonight This isn't happening to me This can't be happening to me She didn't say a word Just walked away

--- In this part, and subsequently in the rest of the verses, he talks about "she" as if he's not taling "to" her, rather "about" her. He's telling a story "to" a person, "about" her, and the way that she treated him.

You were the first to say, that we were not okay You were the first to lie, when we were not alright This was my first love, She was the first to go, and when she left me for you, I was the Last to Know.

--- I think this is written to someone close to Adam. Obviously, it was someone to whom he turned to when times got rough. By the last two lines there, that person ended up being the one that she also turned to

Why didn't she tell me Where to go tonight She didn't say a word She just walked away

-- This is dealing with the agony of not knowing. It's a tough position to be in when someone comes to you and tells you that a relationship that you think is going well is over, and leaves you nowhere to go.

You were the first to say, that we were not okay You were the first to lie, when we were not alright This was my first love, She was the first to go, and when she left me for you, I was the Last to Know.

-- We've already discussed this part.

I'll be the first to say That now I'm okay and for the first time, I've opened up my eyes!

-- He's saying that he's over it. For whatever reason, unknown to the listener, he's over her, and over the situation. He's realized that there's better things out there that he can live his life for.

This was my worst love, You'll be the first to go, and when she leaves you for dead, You'll be the last to know

-- He's saying that she was the first person he fell in love with. I'm not exactly about the second line, but I'm guessing that in her new live where it's her and this other guy, this other guy is going to be the one that gets left. The last two lines are telling the guy what she has done to him (Adam) she will also do to this new guy. In practice, if a relationship begins on an affair, it will also end on an affair. So, Adam is saying that because he was the last to know about the guy that replaced him in the relationship, the new guy will also find himself in the same situation.

Personally, I hope Adam is correct, and my soon to be ex-wife's boyfriend knows a little bit about how I feel. Five years is a long time.

Of course, music is the best media out there for sending a message that can be interpreted in different manners. This is only how I take it, and I'm not saying anyone else is wrong by any means.

By far one of the most innovative songs I've heard in a long time. I can't remember the last time a guy wrote a song to the guy that replaced him in a relationship. Normally they are about the girl, or the girl being a whore. Kudos to 3DG for that one.

    My Opinion

You got it all wrong, the singer is telling a the story of how he had been cheated on while she was dating another guy, and he was the 'Last to Know' about it

At the end of the song, he is warning the dude she cheated with to watch out because she'll do it again

When it says "That they're not okay"

It's actually supposed to be "That now I'm okay"

This song is not about relationships with an opposite gender. This is actually about a drug addiction.

The whole switch a roo, to him being broken hearted to him being okay is all about him going from addiction to being a okay after getting over the addiction. He refers the drug as a she.

    As the end says.

"and when she leaves you for dead, You'll be the last to know"

It's the drug taking advantage of the next person's addiction. Taking him/her all the way to death, and him not being able to know about "she" left him for dead. As the drug killed him/her.

= I think its a conversation between a guy and his best friend, that took place after his girlfriend just cheated on him and left him with no warning.

She just walked away Why didn't she tell me And where do I go tonight This isn't happening to me This can't be happening to me She didn't say a word Just walked away

= hes broken, in shock and lost, he has no idea what to do and how to react to what just happened. he goes to his best friend to talk with him, not to confront him, but because he needed his best friend to talk to.

You were the first to say, that we were not okay You were the first to lie, when we were not alright

= here he starts to take in what has happened and put everything together, he goes back to some conversations they had in the past about this relationship, and realizes that this has been going on for a long time. His friend was the first to point out the probloms in his relationship but he was also lieing to him knowing the girl was unfaithfull to him.

This was my first love, She was the first to go,

= This girl was his first real love, and she was the one that ended up leaving him.

and when she left me for you, I was the Last to Know.

= Here he confronts his friend about the girl leaving him for his best friend, cheating on him with the guy he trusted, with who he thout was his friend. but what upsets him the most is how his friiend never told him, amd kept him in the dark about her cheating on him with his friend.

I'll be the first to say That now I'm okay and for the first time, I've opened up my eyes!

= He trys to make himself feel better by convinceing himself that he is ok now and that he was just blinded this whole time, and now he will feel better because now he knows better than to trust someone else.

This was my worst love, You'll be the first to go, and when she leaves you for dead, You'll be the last to know

= He points out that this great first love he had turned out the be the worst, and that his friend has to go, then he tells him one last thing befrore he goes. She will make him fall in love with her, she will take his heart and leave him to die (amotionally) and he will be the last one to know it, becuase he wont have a friend there confert him, and point out whats going wrong.

It's about a past girlfriend that thinks that she's the gift to humanity and can just leave any guy for another guy cause she is all that. he's warning the current bf, who she left him for, about her and what she does

I think the song is about being betrayed not only by your "first love" but a friend as well(the guy she left him for) without even having a clue it was going on.

Because the lyrics are speaking about the girlfriend in the 3rd person, rather then talking to her directly its obvious that the he is talking to the person his ex left him for. But lyrics such as "you were the first to lie when we were not alright" suggest that the he knew the couple personally rather then being some stranger.

Another element of the song is the debilitating effect being blindsided in such a way can have. The song then changes tone from a feeling of self-pity,pain and confusion to the realization that it was was never really his fault and he is way better off without them.

    Song Meaning

I agree with "eflover4ever68". The lyrics should say "That now I'm okay".

This song is probably my new favorite by Three Days Grace. It's amazing. And the lyrics speak for themselves.

"This was my first love." It's about a girlfriend he had that he fell in love with.

"She was the first to go, and when she left me for you..." She cheated on him and left him for another man.

"Why didn't she tell me...? You were the first to lie.....I was the last to know." He then finds out that she cheated on him.

"And when she leaves you for dead, you'll be the last to know." In the end, he's no longer blind and he wishes the other man luck because he'll probably end up the same way.

Sorry, i fixed the mistake. This is my personal favorite off the album. I think that when He says "and when she leaves you for dead" he's talking to his friend or something. It's possible. Friend lies to him just to get the girl. and he realizes that it was his worst love because it wasn't really true since she left him for his friend. Anyone else feel that way?

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"
