The premonition

Remember when I told you how my
Kin is different in some ways?
And how you should not fall in love
With someone like me, anyway
Between the lines, people see signs
When they feel the sear, every day's fear
And one night their torches
Find the girl without a name
And the one who has her
Love is no more safe

And until I get my peace I'm but a shade

(The witch-hunt)

The sun lit the white mountain's snow covered peaks,
There I see you, amongst the good people, suffering
She is the one, the unwanted, decidedly so,
'Cause she makes our children cry.
It's a fact, she is exactly that!
A harbinger of death from the world of witchcraft,
And she's feeding them cakes and her ale to this innocent boy,
And her magic brings dismay

(Exposing the heathen)

"I hear her in the wind, the bane of our town
Come with me, father, I'm to expose a heathen"

In my home town
No one's safe now
Young love's been forbidden
For five-fold kisses, my only love had to die

(Envy)

"Your crops are all flourishing, so what's the catch?
I know what you are, the new evil unhatched
As sure as the dawn, they will hear what I know,
And recognize you, and you'll be cleansed too"

(The fear)

For the good, trusting people in town,
In their fear stricken hearts,
Seeing skyclad's a sign like the deathaura,
Every night, so painful's the memory of love in the dark.
One wheel of the year ends their short lives in fear

"I hear her in the wind, the bane of our town.
Come with me, oh, father the heathen is exposed."

(The grudge)

In the age of burning times, you saved my life
The blaze grew ever higher.
I was your cunning man, hiding in the light,
Now your land shall go sour

Your own fears will destroy everything
Envy consumes all, and "thou shall not"
Though it hurts, I must tell you
"I am truly the one
Behind it all"

(The curse)

In the hands of time we all will die
The dead of night will devour your child
The creation o' beliefs you've been fed
The fear, the unknown, the poison loved by death.

(The flames)

In the cool of the night air
Flames purify minds, where
Almost anyone could be the next
"Unless morning finds all of them somehow hexed"

(Endless inquisition)

(Together, today, for all eternity)

I remember how you told me,
Your kin's different, on that sunny day?

You made me smile,
'Cause I was just about to say the same thing
So deeply entwined, love of a lifetime

But they paid someone to say their torment has a name
And after all these years we get to be together for all eternity

    My Interpretation

I can't really argue with RyuheiAoi's interp, because it's insanely knowledgable and, well, I agree with it a fair bit tbh.

I think that it goes like so:

The Premonition: This isn't when they were younger, it's later on the life and they're together, but in secret, she (We'll call her: Female Lover) is reminding him (We'll call him: Male Lover) about when they were younger, and first faling in love, how she told him not to love her, coz shes different (but not magical different; possibly in a "drifter" different. She has no one, no friends or no family; hence "girl without a name" and she tries to "stay behind the curtains", so to speak, and shes felt like she's been more/less human than everyone else), but now it doesn't matter, because the town's coming to kill her (Female Lover has some sort of "premonition" about it), and he (Male Lover) is going to be hated by them too.

But it's Male Lover who's the "witch", (somehow the girl has the premonition though, this is the major flaw in my version. It could possibly be that she has it when theyre both in bed together, and his "witchcraft" has sorta "passed over" to her) so he thinks to himself: "And until I get my peace I'm but a shade..." Basically meaning: Until I reveal who I am and put an end to the danger Male Lover has put Female Lover in, he's nothing more than a pretender, and he's been living in fear that they'll find him out and Female Lover will get caught up/killed in it all.

The Witch-Hunt: Some time passes (days, weeks, whatever) and Male Lover hears a whole crowd of people (I imagine it being each line in the quotes is said by a different person) agreeing there's a witch around, and she must die. Female Lover is there too; and she feels like she is a witch, because of the premonition she had, so she's suffering because she can hear them all say they're going to kill and burn her when they find out who the witch is. Male Lover also sees this "There I see you, amongst the good people, suffering..." and feels bad for it, but won't yet open up that he's the "witch".

Exposing The Heathen: Someone (We'll call them Inquisitor) thinks he knows who the witch is (sings the first to lines in quotes) and tells the Priest/Father to follow him, he'll show him who she is. Male Lover then says the next lines, but Female Lover isn't actually dead yet, but he knows that because he loved her, she's going to die: "For five-fold kisses, my only love had to die"

Envy: Inquisitor thinks that Female Lover is the witch, and is accusing her so, because her crops are being helped to grow thanks to Male Lover's powers. He's saying he's going to tell the town she's the witch, and they'll come and get her.

The Fear: This happens around the same time as Envy. It's basically saying any people in town, even the good ones, are afraid and worried about the "witch", that anything is a sign of witchcraft.

This bit isn't Male Lover saying it, but it's about Male Lover: "Every night, so painful's the memory of love in the dark. One wheel of the year ends their short lives in fear" He's still regretting ever loving the girl, and for what he's done to her... But we also learn Male Lover's true intentions: He's going to kill the whole town so that, finally,

"I hear her in the wind, the bane of our town. Come with me, oh, father the heathen is exposed." Inquisitor has come back to town, saying he knows Female Lover is the witch.

The Grudge: In the age of burning times, you saved my life ...The blaze grew ever higher.

Male Lover was going to let Female Lover take the blame for it, and probably let her burn, so he no longer has to use his powers for evil... But then Male Lover remembers Female Lover saving him at some point in the past (Through them being in love, he stopped using his evil and powers, so people stopped finding out he was a witch/trying to kill him, thus saving his life, and possibly morality) and realises that all the townsfolk should be killed; they were the ones who did this to them!

The rest of it he's talking to the town and saying "You all become consumed by what you feared, by what you wanted and by what you thought shouldn't be, and didn't try to accept me for who I am. But, and though it'll hurt me [this is where Female Lover finds out he's the evil one, and he lied to her and put her in danger. So its hurting him to come out and tell her, as shes in the crowd of townsfolk], and though you all all trusted me to by your Cunning Man... It turns out I'm the evil one, and I curse you all for what you have done to me!" [and Female Lover]

The Curse: This is the bit where Male Lover places his curse on the town; they've been fed fear, the unknown and a poison that attracts death (basically a plague-like curse which will kill them)

The Flames: The curse has been done, some days have gone by, and bodies are being burnt of those who've died of the plague, making the townsfolk think they'll be getting rid of it, but they know that any of the healthy people could be next... But Female Lover gives the "punch line": "Unless morning finds all of them somehow hexed!" they're all going to be dead by tomorrow anyways.

Endless Inquisition: The rest of the town folk die from the plague, until eventually no one is left. Male Lover and Female Lover run away. Eventually, the town is found as a ghost town, and there's an endless search into what happened there.

...Together, Today, For All Eternity: Male Lover tells Female Lover that he remembers when Female Lover said he shouldn't love her, but he was going to say the same thing, with him being the true witch. They know can both live together without having to hide who they are, like they have had to do for so many years.

"But they paid someone to say their torment has a name" this is just saying "Someone pretended they knew that Female Lover was the witch, because they were paid to do so"

It's sorta sketchy and full of holes, I'm sure xD But it's another way I see it. Though the more I think about it, the more I think RyuheiAoi's is right :P xD

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
