Oh God, i already forgot your name
But a name's just a swing of letters
Put together, so clever

Oh God, i thought that i found God in your name
It's upsetting, but the setting has changed
We're never gonna be the same

If you look everybody is trying on new faces
And the ones that fit are surprisingly contagious
With a shiny new beginning we cordially invite you to
Into the dressing room

Oh God, it seems that I misplaced your secret
But i can see what it does, how it lights you up
Oh God, it seems I've had some better days
Keep it steady cause your losing the pace
We're never gonna be the same

If you look everybody is trying on new faces
And the ones that fit are surprisingly contagious
With a shiny new beginning we cordially invite you to
Into the dressing room

Don't spill your guts cause that's a mess that no one wants to clean up
This is enough, my heart is stuck, this feelings breaking me up

Don't spill your guts cause that's a mess that no one wants to clean up
This is enough, my heart is stuck, this feelings breaking me up

If you look everybody is trying on new faces
And the ones that fit are surprisingly contagious
With a shiny new beginning we cordially invite you to
Into the dressing room

    My Interpretation

well to me, this song could mean one of two things:

    1. its about hooking up with someone random at like a party where a bunch of people are doing it. "oh god i already forgot your name" "i thought i found god in your name (sex noises lol)" "keep it steady your losing the pace"

    or

    1. its about a break up and hes trying to tell her that hes already over her like he already forgot her name and is forgetting her secrets and the stuff he used to tell her that she used to like. and the girl wants to get back with him but he kinda doesnt want to -> "Don't spill your guts 'cos that's a mess that no one wants to clean up. Is this enough? My heart is stuck. This feeling is breaking me up." (he doesnt want her anymore) he literally said "breaking me up" and the dressing room part is that hes trying new things and getting a "shiny new beginning" after it and is "cordially inviting" her telling her to move on too

i think its the second one, it sounds better

    Song Meaning

I think the song is about the singer meating a girl and starting a short term relationship with her. He must really love her, he says they are never gonna be the same though. He wants her to change for him, so they will be. The problem is she doesn't want to change.

He says he misplaced her secret, but he doesn't understand what people like about who the girl really is. She is loosing the pace, so she is not changing enough for him.

He says don't spill your guts, because he doesn't think anyone will care who she is, he says his heart is stuck, because he doesn't know wether to stay with her or not.

    Song Meaning

I think it means that how people always change their faces (personallites) and stuff and the dressing room is where everyone changes and stuff.

    My Interpretation

I think that this is kind of saying that people are trying to be individual by trying on different looks and "faces", or maybe even personalities and they end up all being the same.

    Maybe something like that.

I think that this song is talking about people being tired of who they are or wanting to be "original" and they try and be someone else. You have this "new beginning" and it will either turn out great or you will forget who you are

I agree with the idea that it's about people trying to be someone they aren't at the moment, but the lines:

If you look everybody here is trying on new faces, And the ones that fit are surprisingly contagious,

make me think that it's more about how people try and be like other people. Like, that's what that celebrity is wearing, and s/he is famous, so I should do that. So, it's like trying on all of these designer things to become someone you aren't, which is something everyone seems to be doing nowadays.

Sounds like a masquerade... perhaps Phantom of the Opera?

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
