Fires Lyrics
Now I don't mean to cause you worry
It's only hands in my pocket
And the Queen on my money
so leave your locks on the latches
If you bring the water, I'll bring the matches
We are fires in the night
Let us bathe you in our heart
'cause we are fires in the night
Don't you know what the time is?
It's the fall of rock 'n roll,
That's what the news said
so leave your locks on the latches
If you bring the water, I'll bring the matches
We are fires in the night
Let us bathe you in our heart
'cause we are fires in the night
we are fires in the night
let us bathe you in our life
we are fires in the night

Baby, Darling, Doll Face, Honey – This man really adores his love. He’s invoking her heart as he pleads to her.
Now I don't mean to cause you worry, It's only hands in my pocket And the Queen on my money – He’s trying to ease her concerns by implying he means no harm and is not hiding anything. If only the Queen is on his money, he’s not leaving for a foreign destination, but staying put (likely in the UK).
Did you know I've been wanting you? – He’s reaffirming his desire for her.
So leave your locks on the latches. – Close the door, but don’t lock it. He’s asking her to leave him a way in.
If you bring the water, I'll bring the matches – To bring the water means to provide something necessary or make a way or path. He wants to make an agreement with her, by asking her to make a way for them and he’ll do the rest (He'll bring the passion).
'Cause we are fires in the night We are fires in the night – Fires in the night are mysterious, dangerous and chaos, but attractive, exciting, and mysterious
Let us bathe you in our heart – Let us envelop you with love (this is the first mention that there is more than one person, maybe a child)
'Cause we are fires in the night
Come on get up Romeo – this is a line from Romeo and Juliet when the Nurse is urging Romeo to stand up and be a man for Juliet’s sake.
Don't you know what the time is? It's the fall of rock 'n roll,
- the fall of rock and roll was the end of an era due to a change to pop/disco and other genres. The times are changing.
That's what the news said – He’s validating it.
[Edit: Improving]

I love this song. Love love love.
"Did you know I've been wanting you? so leave your locks on the latches If you bring the water, I'll bring the matches"
<3

Agreed :]

Baby, Darling, Doll Face, Honey Now I don't mean to cause you worry <love, i don't want you to worry> It's only hands in my pocket And the Queen on my money <i'm broke, and the government takes my money>
Did you know I've been wanting you? so leave your locks on the latches <did you know i want you? so leave the door open for me> If you bring the water, I'll bring the matches <if you bring the bathing water, i'll bring something to light the room>

Its about two people in love going through a tough time, but its also about how life is fleeting, and while your alive you need to let people into your hearts. The story goes that one person is scared for the other "I dont mean to make you worry, its just my hands in my pockets" he means that its not a gun, or hes not going to hurt himself. Then the speaker tells the person how he feels "did you know i've been wanting you?" so "leave the locks on the latches" is kind of like "can we shut other people out for just a little while" When he talks about "we are fires in the night" he means "life is short, like matches in the dark" its a metaphor. The "let us bathe you in our heart" is pretty clear about letting people love you and loving other people. Its a song about being in love people. its simple and sweet.
All men say it's only a hand in their pocket. Moral of the song: Don't trust men :)

...sure. lets go with that non-sense answer.

Is it not?
'Cause we are fires in the night We are fires in the night Let us bathe you in our light 'Cause we are fires in the night

Baby, Darling, Doll Face, Honey Now I don't mean to cause you worry <love, i don't want to worry you> It's only hands in my pocket And the Queen on my money <but i'm broke, and the government takes my money>
Did you know I've been wanting you? so leave your locks on the latches <did you know i want you? so leave the house door open for me> If you bring the water, I'll bring the matches <if you get the bathwater, i'll bring the lights>
'cause we are fires in the night We are fires in the night <fires meaning something that illuminates, light. so like a match, a candle, lantern so its dark in the house, probably because they don't have enough money to pay electricity but they don't give a fuckk. they love eachother so much they'll take a bathe in candle light "we" incorporates 2 or more people, in this case, a couple and "are" is a direct comparison to something inanimate, like fire. so it could be a metaphor.. basically saying you and i are the fire that lights the night> Let us bathe you in our heart 'cause we are fires in the night <probably another metaphor, the couple speaking to eachother as one but imagery like bathe and heart sounds like a cleansing love, something like baptism not that its a religious lyric or anything>
Come on get up Romeo Don't you know what the time is? <next morning. stayed in late> It's the fall of rock 'n roll, That's what the news said <probably something they saw on tv, or a specific time in history when someone thought rock and roll was dying out>
just my opinion
