Gaia Bleeds (Make Way For Man) Lyrics

Oh!
Stand down
Manifesting a destiny of unavoidable doom
Black wolves are gnashing at our heels
Fangs of accountability all unforeseen or intentionally neglected?

Oh!
The degradation of a home
Humanity sits on its throne
Cover your eyes and ears and know
We cant escape the consequence

And now the rising of septic tides as refuse litters the Pacific Gyre
We continue to drown the ocean in its own waters
Stand down, stand down
Times out now
Kill like we know how
Killing like were allowed

Oh!
The degradation of a home
Humanity is so lost
Cover your eyes and ears and know (without remorse)
We cant escape the consequence
And everythings ending

Make way
A failed culture makes its mark existing only to destroy what came first
With no regard for creation
Men play God
Drop unstoppable bombs
All institutions are wrong, but none of them will ever stop

Make way for man (x4)
Bombs away (x3)
No escape

Now turn the other cheek and pretend
Full speed to hatred forcing life against its will
Full speed til were dead
We cant escape the consequence

Oh! (Bombs away)
The degradation of a home (Bombs away)
Humanity sits on its throne (Bombs away)
Cover your eyes and ears and know (Bombs away)
We cant escape the consequence
No escape

I believe the song is pretty much about how humanity is destroying the planet everyday and messing around with stuff that should be left alone (ie: the "Men play God" line), and most people feel there is no consequence to those actions. A lot of people say things like, "What I do to this planet doesn't matter because I'll be dead when the damage becomes visible," but this is our home and we're destroying it, and the damage is actually becoming apparent today. Unfortunately, there is no way to reverse our actions and we are killing our home.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

mmm I love SYG. Great new song, although it did take a while for them to put up some new material. Gaia Bleeds is very heavy compared to their past stuff and I enjoy it VERY much :) Love the song way more that This Will Be The Death Of Us. I think this part of the song can explain a lot about it's meaning. "Make way A failed culture makes its mark existing only to destroy what came first With no regard for creation Men play God Drop unstoppable bombs All institutions are wrong, but none of them will ever stop"

I never got into mutiny! after hearing this song i thought i was crazy... if their new album is like this stuff it'll be up there in my top albums of the year for sure. this song rocks

CreatedxVoid is right, this song is about humanities impact on the planet. Gaia is the Greek Mother Goddess, and considered the lifeblood of the planet. Final Fantasy geeks will recognise the reference. So "Gaia Bleeds" literally means that the planet is bleeding. The lyrics are fairly staightforward to understand, witha few little references chucked in, such as 'manifesting a destiny', which refeences the pioneers belief in manifest destiny, which was essentially a misplaced belief that ended up with the mass genocide of Native Americans and came very close to the destruction of an entire species in the buffalo, all...

Matt: "Humanity has assumed the role of God, with that role comes a great responsibility and we are failing. We abuse our powers as we kill ourselves, kill each other, and kill the earth. We suffocate our own life force at the source and consequently, our future darkens more every day as we hurl ourselves full speed into an ever deepening vortex of inevitable doom: the bleeding of Gaia. A big thank you to John Gula for his contribution to the song on all accounts."

Everyone on this earth has contributed in some way to its destruction in some way. We are all responsible, and thus all of us will pay a higher price for our ignorance. SYG is ill.

This song is so amazing. I'd love to explain it point by point, but it's just too much. It's great. I love it. It's even much deeper than it seems on the surface. Finally a band with something to say. How refreshing..

I completely agree. its one of those songs that says so much in just a few minutes. You don't see that too much lately.. especially making it an actually fun to listen to song!
