I'll swallow up all of you
Like a big bottle of big, big pills
You're the one that I should never take
But I can't sleep until I devour you
I can't sleep until I devour you
You're a flower that's withering
I can't feel your thorns in my head

This is no impressionability
You're not crying, this is blood all over me
You're not crying, this is blood all over me
You're not crying, this is blood all over me
And I'll love you, if you let me
And I'll love you, if you won't make me starve

I used to hold your heart to neck
I know I'll miss you if I close my eyes
But this is loaded with an open film
I'll see you and I'll blow your heart to pieces
I will blow your heart to pieces
I will blow your heart to pieces
I will blow your heart to pieces
And I'll love you, if you let me
And I'll love you, if you won't make me starve
Oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh

My pain's not ashamed to repeat itself
Pain's not ashamed to repeat itself
Pain's not ashamed to repeat itself
Pain's not ashamed to repeat itself
I can't sleep until I devour you
I can't sleep until I devour you
I can't sleep until I devour you
I can't sleep until I devour you
I can't sleep until I devour you
And I'll love you, if you let me
And I'll love you, if you won't make me starve

i think it mite be about a person he loves who keeps herting him but he keeps going back and devouring/loving her even though she brings him pain. 'ill love you if you dont make me starve' he'll love her if she gives him the right emotional/sexual attention.

'pain is not ashamed to repeat itself' you can be in love and get yr heart broken and go through a shit load of pain, and it doesnt matter, it'll keep happening, its not like pain is ashamed to repeat itself and after a while its just gonna be like 'ok ive done enough messing up this persons life, i should stop now' pain is gonna haunt us forever =)

I love the way it ends: "I'll love you if you won't make me sto-"

Then it ends. She makes him stop.

Great song, but I hate how it just cuts off at the end. and I think mosama has the description perfect.

The booklet says 'stop', not 'starve'.

There's no need to look too deep into this song. It's a great lovesong by Marilyn Manson.

I thought it said Stop instead of Starve, but I don't have the booklet, so I can't contest. Plus, starve does seem to go with the motif of eating(Devour). And, I thought he said something about "Open Them" instead of Open Film, in regards to his eyes being closed. I couldn't make out the starting part of that line, though I admit that I was more smitten with the backing track than anything else.

And, mosama is correct. This is definitely a track about being in love, in a very Manson-esque sort of way. It relates eating and/or devouring the one you love with finally having all of them to yourself. Though everyone tends to rag on the man about his lyrics, there's no dying how powerful of a feeling it is that he put in a very easily relateable state. Anyone whom is or has ever been completely in love can draw connections with that. Especially if the relationship involves a lot of pain and frustration. And, even moreso if the person continues to move forward with trying to make things work and completely win over the heart of the other.

I would say that this song is more about Evan than it would be about Dita. I can feel a connection with this track and a situation that I'm currently involved in, myself. Even when you know that you shouldn't try, you keep going. You keep allowing yourself to be hurt through all the pain, suffering, frustration, annoyance and bothering that is in store for you . . . all to know that YOU have won. That you have devoured the one you love and now they will always be yours.

With the old saying of sleep being the cousin of death, it's not hard to figure out what he means by "I Can't Sleep Until I Devour You." Simply stating that he can't rest, he can't stop and he can't die until he has all of her.

Definitely one of my favorite songs on this new LP. And, a phenomenal way to open an album. It was a pleasant shock.

    My Interpretation

This is all my interpretations, take it as you will... and I'll have to make a few corrections on these lyrics as well.

I'll swallow up all of you Like a big bottle of big, big pills You're the one that I should never take --He's explaining where drugs are like love, that this love will be bad and he knows he shouldn't fall into this relationship

But I can't sleep until I devour you I can't sleep until I devour you --Now this I'm not sure devour could be used for sex, I can't sleep until i love you physically

You're a flower that's withering I can't feel your thorns in my head --He can tell everything is falling apart, the thorns can be simple enough as a tightly held hand. With it falling apart he feels her grasp weaking as like just going through the motions. Sort of like that awkward hug, I'm only doing it because its expected.

This is no impressionability You're not crying, this is blood all over me --Now this I really think it means that he knows what is going on will not form her, she won't cry for it but he knows it's tearing him apart inside.

And I'll love you, if you let me And I'll love you, if you won't make me (stop) --Simply said, I will love you with everything I have if you let me. I know it'll hurt me but I won't stop until you make me.

I used to hold your heart to neck I know I'll miss you if I close my eyes But this is loaded (if I open them) I'll see you and I'll blow your heart to pieces --I'm not sure what the neck metahore is like, maybe a reference to wearing a heart on your sleeve. With eyes closed you won't see them, almost trying to hide because of all that has happened if he sees her he will try to damage her emotionally hence blow your heart to pieces.

My pain's not ashamed to repeat itself --I've fell in love before, I've been hurt but it will all happen again.. if you let it.

I went into Hot Topic and I wasn't sure whether this album would be any good so I checked it out. This was the song that I heard and I got goosebumps! I think that it's great and I totally agree with the comments before me. Great opening and even thought it's quite annoying, I think that I like the sudden ending. It probably has some sort of symbolism that just goes waaay over my head. I admit the 1st time I heard the ending I was like wtf?!

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
