I grew from monkey into man,
Then I crushed 15 million with a wave of my hand.
I grew drunk on water turned into wine,
'Till I was slave and master at the same damn time.

It's why I am.
It's why I am.
Why I am, still here dancing with the GrooGrux King.

Out of my head and into the room hello.
A king of men, it makes no sense.
Oh and I bow to the Priest, while I worship the Witch.

But it's why I am,
Always the only one to make you smile.
Why I am, I'm still a snake in the wood pile.
It's why I am, still here dancing with the GrooGrux King

Out of my head and into the room.
So when my ghost takes me from you.
You can remember the fool that I am.
Don't cry baby,
Don't cry.

It's the lose and the win of the world.
Wrong and right,
Us and them of the world.
It's the you and the me of the world.
But, Only one way out of the world.

It's the lose and the win of the world.
Wrong and right,
Us and them of the world.
It's the you and the me of the world.
Only one way out of the world.

It's why I am, unlikely to agree.
It's why I am, climbin' out of my monkey tree.
Why I am, still here dancing with the GrooGrux King.
We'll be drinking Big Whiskey while we dance and sing.
And when my story ends it's gonna end with him.
Heaven or hell I'm going there with the GrooGrux King.

Why I am, the apple of your pretty eye.
Why I am, a snake in the wood pile.
Why I am, still here dancing with the GrooGrux King.

Out of my head and into the room.
So when my ghost takes me from you.
You can remember the fool that I am.
Don't cry baby,
Don't cry.

    The studio version's lyrics are:

I grew from monkey into man Then I crushed 15 million with a wave of my hand I grew drunk on water turned into wine ‘Til I was slave and master at the same damn time

But it’s why I am It’s why I am Why I am still here dancing with the GrooGrux King

Out of my head and into the room, hello

A king of men, it makes no sense Oh bow to the priest while I worship the wench but it’s why I am always the one who’d make you smile Why I am I’m still a snake in the woodpile It’s why I am still here dancing with the GrooGrux King

Out of my head and into the room So when my ghost takes me from you You can remember the fool that I am Don’t cry baby, don’t cry

The lose and the win of the world
Wrong and right, us and them of the world It’s the you and the me of the world But only one way out of the world It’s the lose and the win of the world
Wrong and right, us and them of the world It’s the you and the me of the world Only one way out of the world

It’s why I am unlikely to agree Why I am, climbing out of my monkey tree Why I am still here dancing with the GrooGrux King We’ll be drinking Big Whiskey while we dance and sing and where my story ends, it’s gonna end with him Heaven or hell, I’m going down with the GrooGrux King

Why I am the apple of your pretty eye Why I am the snake in the woodpile
it’s why I am still here dancing with the GrooGrux King

Out of my head and into the room So when my ghost takes me from you You can remember the fool that I am Don’t cry baby, don’t cry

I think this song is very criticle to the lack of responsibility our world leaders address.

In the middle of critisizing mankind and its leaders for going in the wrong direction he says w/e, We’ll be drinking Big Whiskey while we dance and sing and where my story ends, it’s gonna end with him Heaven or hell, I’m going down with the GrooGrux King. r.i.p. LeRoi.

I'm loving this song. One of the best they've put out in awhile.

This is a great song, but Dave sings with so much more passion live. Too bad that it didn't carry over.

Great song! They play it excellent live and the lyrics are full of cool imagery. RIP Leroi

I love the elements of his past that he's putting into the song. The references to proudest monkey and two step in the first stanza combined with the tribute to Leroi later in the song really give it a cool nostalgic feel.

This song is obviously about LeRoi Moore who's nickname was Grux. I think Dave uses the lyrics to describe the complexity of LeRoi. He was an awesome musician and human being but he was flawed too. I think its also about LeRoi's struggles with success and fame..."Til I was slave and master at the same damn time". Dave shares this thinking according to interviews. I think Dave uses the line "So when my ghost takes me from you, You can remember the fool that I am, don't cry baby, don't cry" as a way of describing the band's loss and pain with moving on but that LeRoi will live on with them forever. I love how much this song has turned into an anthem at concerts, its a fitting tribute to such a talented person.

One correction with the lyrics its "Oh bow to the priest while I worship the witch"

I think this song is a memorial to LeRoi by funneling as many DMB songs as possible into one. Basically every line references one of the songs that he was there to play/create.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
