When I was younger,
I wish that I would have known better.
Better love makes a fat romance,
That lasts for more than a shoe shine.
I'm older, took all the words of my mother, saying,
It could be worse,
Could be born with that disease,
Instead of catching it first.
So lets go back, to the first time,
That I met you, in your Chevy,
With your hands stretched,
And me crying, screaming, Mercy. Mercy.
But I know that, I was put here, to fight Vikings
In the cold war, with my arms out,
In the front lines, singing, Dare me. Dare me.

But these things take time love.
These things take backbone.
And they'll tell you what you want to hear
Cause they think its better. Better.
But you better know how to point out the liars.
You've got to weigh your wars make sure
You're not fighting for nothing. Nothing.
Are you fighting for nothing?

It feels like this world has been
Growing slowly upside down.
Maybe I should move to China,
And straighten this mess out.
Maybe Ill be a poet.
Watch all the sky for falling words.
And write about my grandmas curtains,
Or the lady who put the Chinese buffet in her purse.
I've got my mouth.
Its a weapon. Its a bombshell.
Its a cannon. I've got my words.
I won't give them mercy. Mercy.

But these things take time love.
These things take backbone.
And they'll tell you what you want to hear
Cause they think its better. Better.
But you better know how to point out the liars.
You've got to weigh your wars make sure
You're not fighting for nothing. Nothing.
Are you fighting for nothing?

I've got my words. I hope they hurt you.
I hope they scar you. I hope they heal you.
I hope they cut you open,
Make you see you've been warring
For all the wrong reasons.

Make you see that some things are worth bruising for.
Make you see that your name is your honor code.
Make you see that your hands you're accounted for.
Pick and choose where your sweat and your blood will go.
Make you see your life's not to be lived alone.
Run their spit through your hair,
You're worth nothing.
Nothing.

But these things take time love.
These things take backbone.
And they'll tell you what you want to hear
Cause they think its better. Better.
But you better know how to point out the liars.
You've got to weigh your wars make sure
You're not fighting for nothing. Nothing.
Are you fighting for nothing?

This is a wonderful song. One of the best songs on their new album. It has beautiful lyrics and their voices are flawless. Nice job!

I'm sure this tells us to just stay strong through every obstacle. And to always keep your head up. no matter what.

I just like the part "make you see that some things were worth bruising for". My ex broke up with me when the distance between us got too much for him. I told him that loving him was worth the pain of being apart for a while, but he just kept apologizing.

Anyway, like yoursavior said, the rest of the song 'tells us to just stay strong through every obstacle'. I've had to stay strong since then, because the only other thing would be to fall apart, and that's not an option.

the lyrics "I’ve got my words. I hope they hurt you. I hope they scar you. I hope they heal you." are missing. it's suppose to go before I hope they cut you open...

This is what I understand about the song "Fighting for Nothing" and you guy can make a discussion about it. Though I use English as the second language so sometimes I couldn't find exactly word that I want but this is the main idea.

When I was younger, I wish that I would have known better Better love makes a fat romance, lasts for more than a shoe shine I'm bolder, took all the words of my mother Saying it could be worse Could be born with that disease Instead of catching it first

Woman say : when she was young she didn't recieve love. She wants to know love that last long. ( I quite don't get this part)

So let's go back to the first time That I met you in your Chevy With your hands stretched and me crying, screaming "mercy, mercy" But I know that I was put here To fight vikings in the cold war, with my arms out in the front singing "dere me, dere me"

Then she tells about how she met him at the first time. He try to force her in the car and she was scared and fight againest. But leter she think she will let him to make him love her.(it's a cold war)

These things take time, love These things take backbone And they'll tell you what you want to hear They say it gets better, better But you better know how to point out the liars You've got to win your wars, make sure You're not fighting for nothing, nothing Are you fighting for nothing, nothing

Another person (or the man) says : This thing takes time and patient. And people keeps telling you lies because they think it's better.(That you can work this out) Do you think you would win this war to make him love you. " You're gonna wiegh your wars make sure you're not fighting for nothing?

It feels like this world has been growing slowly upside down, Maybe I should move to China, straighten this mess out Maybe I'll be a poet, watch all the sky for falling words Write about my grandma's curtains Or the lady who put the chinese buffet in her purse

Woman says : Later she feels confused and think maybe she should run away from this. Or have keep herself in the imagination lying herself.

    I've got my mouth, it's a weapon It's bombshell, it's a cannon I've got my words, I won't give them mercy, mercy

I hope they cut you open, make you see you war For all the wrong reasons, make you see that some things were worth bruising for Make you see that your name is your honor code Make you see that your hands you're accounted for They can choose where your sweat and you blood will go Make you see your life's not to be lived alone Run the strip through your hair You're worth nothing, nothing

Another person says: I want to tell you the truth that could help you even it's hurt. That you are worthed, having your pride and you're not alone and beloved. If you let him do that you that way you are worthless. So make sure you know what you doing.

    That's all.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
