Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. I agree with bawhite2. Hit it dead on.
However, I also think the "Somebody's heart is broken and it becomes your favorite song" part is a subtle nod to LeRoi. I'm guessing this song was written after his death. Therefore, while it's many people's favorite song right now, the bands heart was broken because of his death. So right now, we are listening to the bands heartbreak & loving it. Kinda makes you feel bad if you think about it.

I agree with bawhite 2 and crounsa810. But I also like the part of the song where he says, "Funny the way it is, not right or wrong." I think he's saying that the fact that all these things are happening isn't right or wrong. It's just funny.

Yes, on the list of players Le Roi Moore is listed as one of the people who played on this album and song... Musicians spend years working on albums at times and it takes a while to finally edit and finally release it so having somone who died a year earlier on the album wouldn't be suprizing especally since they named the album after him (his nickname was the Grugrux King) so it could also be a bit of a tribute to his last studio album...
