full title: Traveling Salesman’s Young Wife Home Alone On Christmas In Montpelier, VT

Here comes the frost that freezes every year
Shuttered windows hang the advent calendar
What are you doing on your own this frozen year
I know you're changing like the trees in Montpelier

You took the job that put you on the road
For days and weeks in motels, sleepy TV glow
With static filtering through payphones in the snow
It drowns you at home by Christmases and love-you-so's

And all our promises come so easy
They fill the distances til our next meeting
But you're always off the phone long before I'd prefer to be

Down northern weeks she gets some money saved
I felt the kicking groan that pinned me every day
I will look fat and happy when you get home you will say
But I didn't mean to future stay

But all our promises come so freely
When all I really want is you close to me
But you were already out the door by the time it occurred to me

here comes the frost that freezes every year shutter windows hang the Advent calendar what are you doing on your own with frozen ears I know we're changing like the trees in Montpelier

you took a job that put you on the road for days & weeks in motels' sleepy TV glow with static filtering through pay phones in the snow it drowns your home by Christmases & love you sos

& all our promises come so easy they fill distances til our next meeting but you're always off the phone long before I'd prefer to be

& I know that we should get some money saved I've felt the kicking growing in me every day oh we'll live fat & happy when you get home you will say but I'd eat beans if you'd just stay

& all our promises are so fleeting when all I really want is you close to me but you were already out the door by the time that occurred to me

one of the most beautiful songs in my opinion.

about a wife alone because her husband is a salesman that travels often. i think she's pregnant and wants him to be home, but understands that money needs to be made in order to support a family

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Midnight
Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms. “Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
