Get Clean Lyrics
say I'm a cog in the machine
and the sign above the front gate
tells me work will set me free
I'm sleeping on this mattress
stained by men who've died before
There's a hole inside my broken heart
And locks on all the doors
1-2-3
Don't be scared
Just stand with me
Hold my hand, try not to breathe
All together now
From a pile too big to burn
I recognize a childhood friend
who tells me that my turn
is coming like the winter winds
that chill me to the bone
In chambers dense with screams and tears
We all still die alone
1-2-3
Don't be scared
Just stand with me
Hold my hand, try not to breathe
All together now
Wall to wall, ceiling to floor
I am not afraid to die
I only wish that I knew why...
1-2-3
Don't be scared
Just stand with me
Hold my hand, try not to breathe
All together now

the line "get clean" refers to ethnic cleansing.

Keith reportedly completely immersed himself in research to try and tell it from a prisoner's point of view. I guess it worked because this is one of the most lyrically powerful songs I've ever heard.
I think the "try not to breathe" refers more to the horrible stench from the bodies being burned rather than the gas chambers.... the bridge (and I guess the end of the second verse) seems to refer more to the gas chambers (single file through the door... I am not afraid to die...).
@Scorpionsphynx, all of the gates at the camps said "Work will set you free", except for Buchenwald, which said "Jedem das Seine", meaning "to each his own" (or the more sinister "everyone gets what he or she deserves").

i Think this song is about the holicost if you think about it and know about the holicost youl understand
Completely agree. I remember playing Rock Band 2 and was trying to listen to the lyrics. The main thing that stuck out to me was the line "and the sign above the front gate tells me work will set me free"

Isn't that what the gates of Auschwits say?

Yeah it definately is about the holocaust, just as "try not to breath" is a reference to the gas used by the nazis in the concentration camps.

I think the "get clean" refers to how the gas chambers were disguised as showers. And the choruses are about being sent into one of the gas chambers and trying not to breathe the gas.
