The numbers on my wrist
say I'm a cog in the machine
and the sign above the front gate
tells me work will set me free
I'm sleeping on this mattress
stained by men who've died before
There's a hole inside my broken heart
And locks on all the doors

Get Clean

All together now
1-2-3
Don't be scared
Just stand with me
Hold my hand, try not to breathe
All together now

I shovel dirt on bodies
From a pile too big to burn
I recognize a childhood friend
who tells me that my turn
is coming like the winter winds
that chill me to the bone
In chambers dense with screams and tears
We all still die alone

Get Clean

All together now
1-2-3
Don't be scared
Just stand with me
Hold my hand, try not to breathe
All together now

Single file through the door
Wall to wall, ceiling to floor
I am not afraid to die
I only wish that I knew why...

All together now
1-2-3
Don't be scared
Just stand with me
Hold my hand, try not to breathe
All together now

Keith reportedly completely immersed himself in research to try and tell it from a prisoner's point of view. I guess it worked because this is one of the most lyrically powerful songs I've ever heard.

I think the "try not to breathe" refers more to the horrible stench from the bodies being burned rather than the gas chambers.... the bridge (and I guess the end of the second verse) seems to refer more to the gas chambers (single file through the door... I am not afraid to die...).

@Scorpionsphynx, all of the gates at the camps said "Work will set you free", except for Buchenwald, which said "Jedem das Seine", meaning "to each his own" (or the more sinister "everyone gets what he or she deserves").

I think the "get clean" refers to how the gas chambers were disguised as showers. And the choruses are about being sent into one of the gas chambers and trying not to breathe the gas.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
