You were the sunshine of this state
Until I made up my mind to make a choice
We all decided to hate in the long shot
And in the long run I learned a lesson from the best
But you simply forgot one

You got me out of your head, but never in your bed
You trade it all for sliver and some stupid little sleight of hand
To play my mind like a Game Boy
But we know this ain't no game, girl

We played it cool for a couple of weeks
All of a sudden things got heavy
We were one base shy from a home run
Too bad you dropped the bat and decided to run

First base, we know what we're working with
Second base we're on the way to your place
Third base, we lost it all
Too bad you were gone before you saw us fall (x2)

You were the sunshine of this state
Until I made up my mind to make a choice
We all decided to hate in the long shot
And in the long run I learned a lesson from the best
But you simply forgot one

You got me out of your head, but never in your bed
You trade it all for sliver and some stupid little sleight of hand
To play my mind like a Game Boy
But we know this ain't no game, girl

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
