Fall to your knees, accomplishing nothing.
Fall to your knees, only to exercise your schedule.
Abandon calendar.

What has come with such preaching is loneliness.
Profit: zero.
Achievement: zero.

Forward can't be stopped.
It just goes to show that some words are useless.
Take all your medals, take all your ribbons,
Take all your awards, take them back to the ground.

Our youth is lost;
A product of the created circumstances.
All I can say is "Maybe."
This is what I've been expecting all along.
Now's the time of weakness, now's the time of blood.
Perhaps even the whole-hearted had wished for this.
Now's the time of weakness, now's the time of blood,
And still the time of lions.
Push everything, force everything.
We've all sung of the end, but who truly understands it?
All along.

Forward can't be stopped,
It just goes to show that some words are useless.
Take all your medals, take all your ribbons,
Take all your awards, take them back to the ground.

Saw them play this song last night, they did a great job. The show was completely sold out. As for the song itself, I get the feeling that it means that it doesn't matter what possessions you have or where you stand in society, the only thing that matters is if we've got faith in Jesus Christ or not. "Take all your medals, take all your ribbons, Take all your awards, take them back to the ground" Those lines pretty much say it all, you might as well throw all your possessions to the ground because they mean nothing to Jesus.

i agree with nuclearnatalie about the song being about materialism and such [and i was at the same sold out show on 3/27/09 in the atl], but i also think that they might be saying that alot of times, christians get all high and mighty, preaching about things they don't and can't fully comprehend [we've all sung of the end, but who truly understands it?] and you're speaking in vain [some words are useless] if you're only seeking your own profit, ie. medals, ribbons, and trophies.

what has come with such preaching is loneliness; pretty self explanatory, you're alienating yourself from others when you shove things in their faces.

if you are using your religion/faith to elevate yourself above others or even if you just don't completely know what you're talking about, even the most "whole-hearted" will be attacked in their time of "weakness," hence the "time of blood."

Chelsrouk pretty much hit the nail on the head. While in some areas of the song, the lyrics do seem to be regard the issue of people too concerned with worldy possessions, there are numerous times the song focuses on christians taking the wrong approach towards introducing someone to god.

I also think that it talks about people that call themselves christians, but don't really even have a relationship with God. It suggests that those people are just going through the motions, and not truly trying to develop that relationship. ie. "Fall to your knees, accomplishing nothing. Fall to your knees, only to exercise your schedule."

    Great song though.

i think "Fall to your knees, accomplishing nothing. Fall to your knees, only to exercise your schedule. Abandon calendar." is saying that if you are only going through the motions of prayer without actually putting all of yourself into prayer and just doing it because its part of your schedule you might as well abandon the prayer because it means nothing unless you put meaning into it

zeivhann, every member of the band mentioned either jesus christ or god at some point in thank yous: mike: "jesus christ, you have blessed us, the undeserving, unconditionally, and i will always owe you thanks" chris: "...finally, thanks to god for creating me and loving me and blessing me with the ability to live the life that i do" jeremy: "thanks to my lord and savior, jesus christ, who loves me no matter what mess i end up in" daniel: "first and foremost, god" james: "...and finally, jesus christ, if anyone has been supportive, protective, caring, and loving, it has been you" andy: "first of all, i would like to give my thanks to god"

the band might have difficulties maintaining their faith in god, as you said, but i think that their love for god becomes more and more apparent with each record.

to me its trying to say like.. you pray and pray but nothing is happening because your doing something wrong! its like your praying but you dont realy mean it like if your distracted or something! in order to pray and something to happen you have to mean it! and have faith that its going to happen!.... and while your praying and praying your jus saying random words...and that nothing is real nothing in that prayer, your meaning it! and wen it says our youth is lost its saying that ourselves and people in this word including christians! are so cot up in all the drugs, bad music, alcohol. etc. that we forget about jesus christ and what he has for us! and now is the time of weakness because of that! people are weak..thats all of what this world is about! but as christians we will fall but we have to learn how to get back up!!-sorry its not the whole song but well yeah hehe-

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
