Quicsand

Im'a be livin under the quicsand
That's where the party at Yea that's where the party at
(Who are you bowing to?)

[Otis:]
Oh shit
How could it happen? it seems i'm trapped
And don't think it's funny because it ain't nobody laughin
I'm scrappin for my life as the ground drags me down
Consumin my body so it will never be found
I'm screamin Leave! The sand reaches up to my knees
I can't believe Egypt is the place I chose for my dream
I try to struggle I gotta try to get out somehow
But the more I struggle the faster this muthafucka pulls me down
Up past my hips oh shit I'm deep in it
In the distance I hear DJs spinnin Man I'm trippin
There must be a reason cause I know that I'm blessed
But panic takes over me as it reaches my chest
Compressed, my breath seems thin and stretched
Even more as the sand reaches up to my neck
I don't know why, Why was I chosen to die?
I give into the power quicsand covers my eyes
But then
I opened my eyes and gave a look around
It wasn't death I saw but a party under the ground
Belly dancin bitches with a snake on her neck
Hundreds of em doin the slide to that A-M-B shit
And this chick named Elektris told me I'm the bestest
She drank my stress and happiness was all she left
It was fresh I never really did understand
But Im'a try to figure it out the best that I can
Under the quicsand

Im'a be livin under the quicsand
That's where the party at Yea that's where the party at
(Who are you bowing to?)

[Bonez Dubb:]
Trip up and slip up And I was about to rip up
Tryin to keep myself from fallin shit don't quit I hit the sit up
I'm stuck in the sand up to my waist Feelin my heart begin to race
Death is catchin a murder case and givin Bonez a little taste
I can't move life goes on in my brain
I feel no pain but I'm goin insane
Takin one last breath before I go (Before I go)
Maybe somethin'll help me out (I don't know)
And as I go down I get deep in this quicsand
The ground can take me out but nobody can step to this man
I stick my head down so maybe I could breathe
This ain't the place for me to die I wanna leave
My loves and hates, My rights and wrongs
Mistakes and greats, My pipes and bongs
I'm fuckin pissed I let death come along
But I let go this song came on
It went

Go down Low (Yeah)
Where we go (Come on)
Baby you can come to day
This is the place where the wicked ones stay
Under the quicsand

Im'a be livin under the quicsand
That's where the party at Yea that's where the party at
(Who are you bowing to?)

We all float down here

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.
