I'm not supposed to miss you, cause you're not coming back. And I wish I never kissed you, so what do you think of that? What did I get myself into?
In the back of my mind there will always be the catch and throw away.
But this moment's got me thinking I could reach you. And I'm waking up alone and echo the song sung yesterday and begging you to come back home.

Cause you're my boomerang. My repititous twist of fate. But unexpectedly this time you don't come back to me. Still you go on and on for someone else.

This back and forth gets me going around and round. And I'm so worn out and dizzy while you knock the good ones down. Now I want to know the truth- do you even miss you?

Cause in the back of my mind I could always feel the push and pull away. And now I can see that you were leaving me.

When you're my boomerang and I tried so hard to make you stay. Without a doubt I see this time you won't come back to me.

So fly, fly, fly like a bird in the atmosphere. Glide, glide let the breeze you're feeling take you there. Fly away from me.

In the back of my mind there'll always be the catch and throw away. But this time I'll let it fly and not try to reach you. Because getting up alone will help me grow my own pair of wings and the time has come for me to fly.

Oh boomerang,I'm down to let you go, cause you're my boomerang. And the fun we had was all in vain. But unexpectedly this time you won't come back to me. Still you go on and on for someone, go on and on for someone else.

Fly, Fly, Fly like a bird in the atmosphere. Glide, glide let the breezed you're feeling take you there. Ride, ride on the wind the gets you out of here. Fly away from me.

nice job with the lyrics tennisplyr.

i don't care much for this song. the lyrics are pretty good but the music sounds like maroon 5. mae has been nothing but a disappointment since after the everglow.

I really love this song. They're developing their own sound, not adapting another's. I've really liked the last few songs that they've released--"Embers and Envelopes" (new version), "Somewhere," "The House That Fire Built," and lastly, "Boomerang"! Boomerang sounds really different from old Mae, but I still think that it's great. :) Highly anticipating the next few songs from Mae! :D

I think DB and Everglow is their "own sound" I think what they are doing now is still unique but I like their older sound much better. a good song nonetheless.

I really disagree that DB and Everglow is what identifies Mae. I mean, I can understand that those albums are very in touch with Mae's original ideal, what with the combination of multipe senses and the sound in general being very identifiable, but I found Singularity to be an amazing step forward for them in so far as making music that varies. you can't say you haven't listened to Everglow and had all the songs blend together. That was the idea right, but as great as the songs are, they seem to alike. As for these recent songs, they vary incredibly, and I think that's because of how they're developing them, one by one rather than an album all at once.

Boomerang is very different from a lot of older Mae stuff. But it's definitely still them. I don't think they are actively trying to change their sound for any reason other than to try to push their boundaries.

I think Mae have done a stand up job recovering from the departure of Rob Sweitzer (keyboardist). His absence was pretty obvious on Singularity, but they've managed more than adequately on (m)orning.

Also, I love how this goes right into Two Birds. Beautiful song.

When he says "So fly, fly, fly like a bird in the atmosphere" I think he's inventing a new word: "atmosfire". Pretty.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
