This is about bronies. They communicate by stomping.
Crawling around me
Sleepless eyes
Your hands, they haunt me
Finger tipping down my spine.
Heaven forbid,
well aware of your sins.
In the wake I'll be just like the rest.
Tell the sun don't fall,
so we'll never forget.
Heaven forbid, well aware of your sins.
In the wake I'll be just like the rest.
Past praying for.
Always kept quiet
Clenching my teeth.
Find me fighting the floor.
Raise me from my bones once more.
You're way past praying for.
I wouldn't want to wake you from yourself
Doesn't sit in your stomach just quite right.
Toying with time
Lascivious stares and a dangerous rhyme.

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,

I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
i think that it's about sex, as well.
but she regrets it? "Your hands, they haunt me" not rape, but regret
maybe because he used her? "In the wake i'll be just like the rest." and that's why she regrets it.
This is an amazing song. Anyway "Your hands, they haunt me... finger tipping down my spine. Heaven forbid, well aware of your sins."
Sounds like sexual intercorse..
Probably unwanted fornication, or symbolism of remembering, reflecting and moving on.
i think its about someone kind of beyond hope in which there "way past praying for" and that there too far for her to help them.
versa rocks! =]
They did this song for a movie...But it didn't get picked so they just threw it onto the EP. I'm not sure what movie it's for, but it's probably based on the plot.
The first thing I thought was also sexual intercourse. I don't think it's unwanted, I think when she said "haunted" it meant more of a lingering feeling than a scared feeling. Bad choice of words?
if you watch their "Behind The Video" video for the music video, they say that they wrote it for a movie, but it didn't make it onto the soundtrack.
just in case no one know what movie this song was for, it was for Jennifer's Body.
Jennifer's body was great and so is Versaemerge. It should have made it onto the soundtrack. the thing is I actually thought this song went with that movie before I knew it was supposed to go on the soundtrack.
i feel like it wasn't rape but it wasn't completely voluntary either...almost as if she was pressured into sex and gave in but now realizes it was a mistake and it wasnt worth it
Given the fact that this was written for a movie, I'm curious as to how relevant this was to her to be able to write like this. seems very passionate and poetic, not to mention the musicianship is equally as impressive and gives the song much more personality. Great band.
