The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
You spin my head right round, right round
When you go down, when you go down down
You spin my head right round, right round
When you go down, when you go down down
You spin my head right round, right round
When you go down, when you go down down
You spin my head right round, right round
When you go down, when you go down down
Down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down
Down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down
When you go down, when you go down down
It's goin' down down
Yeah, I'm spendin' my money (ah), I'm out of control (ah)
Somebody help me, she takin' my bank roll
But I'm king of the club (ah) and I'm wearin' the crown
Poppin' these bottles, touchin' these models
Watchin' they asses go down down
Down, down, down, down, down
(Down)
When you go down, when you go down down
Down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down
Down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down
Down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down
Down, down, down
When you go down, when you go down down
You spin my head right round, right round
When you go down, when you go down down
You spin my head right round, right round
When you go down, when you go down down
You spin my head right round, right round
When you go down, when you go down down
You spin my head right round, right round
When you go down, when you go down down
You spin my head right round, right round
When you go down, when you go down down
When you go down, when you go down down
You spin my head right round, right round
When you go down, when you go down down
You spin my head right round, right round
When you go down, when you go down down
You spin my head right round, right round

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

this song is a pretty lame attempt at ripping off the original You Spin Me Round
i like all of his songs but this one.
Music these days.. Very unoriginal but you have to admit, its catchy. I find myself dancing and singing along to his poorly put together, sexually explicit lyrics everytime I hear that song.
i agree with everything you just said
Yesiree, couldn't have said it better myself.
Lol, rap songs have been brutally ripping off old dance songs lately. First T.I. ripped off Dragostea Din Tei with "Live your life" and now Flo Rida is ripping off "You spin me around" by Dead or Alive.
Proves rap taks no musical talent or creativty at all.
It actually is quite the opposite when you think of it. It shows that they are creative enough to take a part of a song and recreate it into their own hit. It's not like Tip and Flo Rida just straight up covered their respective songs, they just took a small part of it and reincarnated it into instant hits. It's not a crime.
Actually, it is a crime unless they get signed permission from the original artist. Copyright laws, my friend. I'm pretty sure FR didn't go talk to DOA for permission for this song. See him in court.
I'm pretty sure he did but if a court case arise, then I'll stand corrected. What my "point" was that it shows creativity that an artist can take a part of a song and reuse it so it can be a new good song. It's not like it's a straight cover of a song, that's different, not as much creativity, if at all. But I guess we can just agree to disagree.
It isn't illegal. You may not think it is very creative and a rip off, but his label is paying royalties to Dead or Alive to use the sample. You will not be seeing him in court. Sorry to disappoint.
I am in total agreement with your statement in reference to RAP music.. it really takes no talent, and especially if you are doing a re-make ( and a lame remake, at that ) of a song that you have ripped off of another artist, and are trying your best to make it look as an ORIGINAL song by you..SHAME ON YOU , Flo Rida.. and I hope that Dead or Alive takes you to Court for plagiarizing their copyrighted material....it is a good song , to begin with...Flo Rida just wanted to make it more " sellable " to the Rap masses that make guys like him even richer.. I guess when those masses of people wake up and STOP buying Rap, and making all these rappers wealthy, it will return from whence it came.. to nothingness...
This guy's right, rappers on the first part need to actually sing instead of talking. Other wise I feel like I'm at a converence listening to some jerk talk while there's a spring break party going on outside. Seriosuly, Flo Rida has no talent at all to start off with. He's idiot who takes other artists songs and then turns them into shit. Seriously if he rips off another good song that I grew up with I'm going to one of his concerts to kick his ass.
The thing with taking parts from other songs is that the artist doesn't seem to credit the original band with anything. Most of the people who know the Flo Rida song will never have heard of Dead or Alive, or at least never heard of this particular song. It's like when Madonna released Hung Up, and only the older generations (and people with a basic musical knowledge) knew that it was an ABBA tune, while all the younger people, who make up most of the radio demographic, just thought Madonna had released another wonder hit.
Welll, I think you took it too far when you said rappers have no talent. It really depends on the artist or the particular song. Yes, this song is crude and talentless, but some rap music is actually very creative and insightful.
i love this song! lol i thought it was about oral but i guess it isnt. the girls voice sounds great, love it.
its what i used to think so as well haha
I agree--it's Ke$ha, by the way. :)
the female voice is neither Katy Perry nor Keisha Cole. it's Kesha. myspace.com/keshaishot
I'm pretty sure this song has to do with pole dancing..because it says From the top of the pole I watch her go down She got me throwin my money around Ain't nothin more beautiful to be foundIt's goin down down... meaning down the pole. And the girl in this is Kesha...Not Keisha Cole OR Katy Pery.
"I'm pretty sure this song has to do with pole dancing..because it says From the top of the pole I watch her go down"<br /> <br /> <br /> I think the pole is meant to be, um, a metaphor for something else... hence everybody saying the song is about oral :)
favorite song right now<3
correct me if i'm wrong.. but i think it has something to do with being at a strip club..
yep it does hahaah<br />
This song is definitely about oral
Catchy as fuck, about oral sex
WHEN YOU GO DOWN
GO DOWN = slang for having oral sex. used when making out, a guy/girl will say, "go down for me" instead of 'gimme head bitch'. (courtesy of urbandictionary.com)
Huh? Rap song? "Go Down"? I wonder?
Okay. Duh. This song is obviously about him going to the strip club
