Aretha's Gold Lyrics

Over that new paved highway
There is a house where love was made
Not with screaming and touching
But with the records quietly spinning
And it was Aretha's Gold
and it was the way you told
me to just shut up and try to enjoy myself.
but that i could never do.
so now it's Joanie's blow
and dreams and dreams and dreams and dreams of you

so if you can't treat her like a woman then
treat her like a baby doll
and just leave her in that bedroom
where you watch the summer tumble and fall
over the gardens, through the schools
she waits alone by a swimming pool
a storm is brewing in her soul
when did it start? i like to think i know.
well it was a summer night
a sweet and i just died
she turned the corner and i knew
all was about to change

and then i kissed your mouth
i felt your past somehow
and your whole life flashed before my eyes

so if you want to treat her like a woman
then pick her up like a baby doll
and rock her gently and tell her that you're sorry
and then be willing to let her go
because you, you're as tameless as a notion
i want to love you but commotion
it ravages me whole,
oh let me, i'm as dramatic as the thunder,
my lioness, scared as she rolls over
oh yeah, she needs to get some sleep.

oh and you, you'll be as famous as the notion
they'll try to name but commotion
oh, it'll ravage on the whole,
oh but me, i'm as dramatic as the thunder,
my lioness, scared as she rolls over
oh yeah, she needs to get some sleep.

I'm sad no one's really said anything about this song but I just want to note that I'm pretty sure it's actually "Joni's Blue" not "Joanie's blow" because it's referring to Joni Mitchell's album "Blue" just like "Aretha's gold" refers to Aretha Franklin's album "Gold." The contrast in tone of the two albums is how he's conveying the fall from grace that his relationship has suffered.
That's all I have to add. I hope more people put in their 2 cents!

GREATNESS

I can't believe I'm only the second to reply. More people should know about this band. They're amazing.

Anyway I think this one is about how he lost his virginity to his girlfriend and then has trouble getting over her later.

AMAZING BAND...to bad they broke up..they could have been so incredibly good. and this song just shows how well preston livinggood can write a fucking song.. this song is brilliant..i listen to it everyday.. along with most of this cd.. i saw them live xmas 08 and instantly fell inlove and never thought twice about this band.. but this song is deff. about love...and his troubles with trying to love whoever it is.. and it being the girl he had sex with sounds perfect to me..never thought about that...

not to mention i got to meet...

I love the feeling in this song. The singer said that this song was the one the band was most proud of in the end. And I agree with 'edwasm9', I believe it is "Joni's Blue". And I also think it is "An ocean" rather than "a notion". I'm not quite sure though.
