When you lower me down
So deep that I
I can't get out
And when you're lost, lost and alone
Yes you'd think it was a liars place
You'd come back for more
If you don't want me to leave
Then don't push me away
Rather blow out the lights you can watch it all fade
But I'm going nowhere

I'm gonna stay
When you just wanna fight
When you're closing you're eyes
'Cause you don't wanna love me
I'm gonna stay
You can't push me too far
There's no space in my heart
When I don't wanna love you

    My Interpretation

This song gets me in a way that reminds me of everything that I've never gotten that I was absolutely sure would make me the happiest person alive; it's about wooing that person that you know you could have had, that you could have made happy, had they only given you the time of day. It's about that reluctant love, the one you don't want to feel for someone, the kind that hurts you, but at the same time, you know you cannot stop. It's the fact that that person only sees what's wrong with you, and not all of the things that you think that you could change for them, had they only given you the chance. "You can't push me too far, there's no space in my heart where I don't wanna love you," is the reluctance to ever let go "If there's nothing to lose, then what is this feeling that keeps on bringing me back to you?" and this is the feeling that everyone has when they simply cannot get over a past love that they know will never love them back. It all ties in beautifully. My favorite James Morrison song. It's so relative. (:

    My Interpretation

I believe this song is about a guy with hope, hope that this woman he was involved with will eventually grow to learn that his commitment and devotion into trying to make love work. So in terms, he is going to wait (stay) for her because he is so certain he's in love with her "there's no space in my heart where I don't wanna love you" to the point where he doesn't want to "go no where."

He mentions the word fighting which I think signifies her willingness to avoid her feelings for him because she doesn't want to see "closing your eyes" all of the evidence of her true feelings but for certain reason; she doesn't want to love him whether it be she isn't ready or some other particular reason.

Ultimately, he has nothing else to lose (because he's already lost her) but to let her know that he still has something for her "what is this feeling that keeps me bringing me back to you" so he's gonna stay (wait).

to me, this song is kind of about how his lover is trying to resist their love. Maybe she's scared or something, but the line "if you don't want me to leave, then don't push me away" makes me think that she's pushing him away cuz she's scared of getting hurt and he's just trying to reassure her. So mainly this song is expressing how he's willing to stick it out and stay even though she's trying to push him away.

i think that the line "and when there's no storm, how can i feel the calm" is saying that if there isn't a storm of emotions [i.e. mixed emotions.. love hate fear etc about the relationship] then how can he get to the calm, or the point of apathy where he doesn't love her anymore. which is why right after he says there isn't room in his heart for that.

he continues to say that if he does leave, they're still going to feel alone and afraid... meaning that if he doesn't stand by her and show her that it's okay, then she'll never get over this fear of commitment and falling in love.

the last chorus, where he's talking about the tears he's cried i think shows that even though this is hard on him, because she's saying no, he's willing to endure it and stay.

Not sure if It's just me, but it's sort of being confused about the one you love because they keep pushing you away when all you want is to stay.

I think this is a commitment song.. in long term relationships the hills get bigger and live can get stale.. I'm gonna stay no matter what, we can get past this part

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
