You can put a stick in my spokes
I can be the butt of your jokes
I can be the laughing stock, I can be your hoax
But I ain't gonna lose you

They can come and tear my house down
They can run me out of town
They can tie me up, call me a clown
But I ain't gonna lose you

I can't stand
The thought of another man

They can make me turn my back on my friends
Send me away to up in San Quentin
Put me in the hole, a thousand times again
But I ain't gonna lose you

Throw me in a hurricane
Tell the whole world I've gone insane
Run an electric shock to my brain
But I ain't gonna lose you

I can't stand
The thought of another man

I'll sing it from my roof top
I'll sing it from the bus stop
I'll sing it on the street drunk to a cop
But I ain't gonna lose you

I love this song. I heard it on... Grey's Anatomy I think... so hopefully Brett Dennen will get some more fans, he deserves it. I've just been waiting for him to make it big. as for the meaning... pretty clear, i think.

Powerful song. It sounds so vulnerable, somehow. It's about giving up everything for one person. No matter what the cost is.

I love Brett Dennen. But i hate the meaning of this song. to think this song is about a girl is just sad. Is there any other possible meaning? When i first heard it, i thought he was talking about not losing himself to the world. but.. i dunno.

i think its a love song saying that they have been through a lot. maybe a highschool relationship when no approves and you feel like the only person thats there for you is the other person on the other side of the relationship and he's saying that he really does love her and he isnt gunna loose her no matter what happens no matter what life or people through at them! but thats just me

ya know kinda like sticks and stones may break my bones but word will never hurt me or us in this case. it kinda sounds like hes telling her that his friends or her friends inculding herself are making fun of him for either being with her or her telling her friends things about him for liking her soo much i think its along those lines.

    My Interpretation

It may be understood as a song about being gay and being ostracized for it. The line "I can't stand the thought of another man" can be seen that way ; a man would be the target of the song. As well as the line "Run an electric shock to my brain" ; I don't think we ever run electric shock to the brain of a man for loving a woman ; while few years past we still did it to gay people. I think the song is about loving another man and being persecuted for it ; but he don't care for that, his only wish being not to lose his lover. I don't think Brett Dennen is gay, but he does care about discrimination and everything, so this interpretation seems quite relevant. (I'm really sorry if my english is weird, I'm actually french)

To that as older guy I was with lost everything he used to listen to this song. I was not even have to think he was playing it about me but now in hindsight, it’s actually about the wife and family that he’s so stupidly left behind because he likes to play around and he just doesn’t know how to grow up. Glad I moved on from him but my heart breaks for his family. ????????

Correction from the post above sorry about the spelling errors . reminds me of this older guy I was with who lost everything . he used to listen to this song and of course I used to think he was playing it about me but now in hindsight, it’s actually about the wife and family that he’s so stupidly left behind because he likes to play around and he just doesn’t know how to grow up. Glad I moved on from him but my heart breaks for his family. ????????

Standing On The Edge Of Summer

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
