The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

this song has a fat beat. also you can't "ban" music. 1st amendment yo~
Well, my opinion is that it is not disrespectful because T-pain and Akon are both muslim..
just because someone says they are muslim, it doesn't mean they are. And its not like they are practising muslims, they are just saying that to get away with this song.
they are muslims and they agree to appear in the song, surely that shows its not actually offensive to them
I just wanna point out that hating musilms are not racist...it's stupid, but it's not racist. If you hate arabic people or people from the middleeast, then thats racist. Anyway, first i thought this song was a critique of religion and wealth, and how that interact with eachother, mainly because he said something about he didn't need to grow a beard...but after reading the lyrics I can see im probably way off.
i dont care what the meaning of this song is, all i can say is the video is piss funny, busta rhymes doing the dance, OMG laughing till i cry watching it right now, HI-larious!
GTA IV Ballad Of Gay Tony!!
This song is very offensive to me, it was rasict and very disrespectful .. I was left in a state of shock upon hearing it at first not sure whether it was real or a joke. It is a very ignorant song sung by a bunch of ignorant artists, people (half of which claim to be "muslims") who dont understand anything about the arabic and islamic world and culture.
This song stereotypes muslims and arabs in a very negative light and should be banned. The remix is even more offensive as it uses words from the Holy Quran in the chorus, which is blasphemous as the words are sacred.
I don't really understand what his target audience is or if he just wants the attention.
It would be really pathetic if he was just doing this for the publicity and even more so if he actually believes in the things he's rapping about because it would prove how ignorant and closed minded of a person he really is.
First off the song is not about Busta Rhymes wanting to steal the Arab money or anything to that affect. He is basically saying he wants to be rich like the Arabs. One of the richest people in this world is a Arab that's all he is trying to say. If it weren't for people trying to alway's make accusations about what rappers are trying to rap about this world be be a better place.
even if the song is offensive you can't ban it. banning music is censoring thier voices which is wrong no matter how ignorant or stupid thier view is
That is the lamest, sorriest excuse for putting down Arabs. It should be banned. It;s not even a song! They're just making people who don't know anything about us more ignorant! It's a very ignorant view and I don't care about censoring their voices. Their voices suck. The world would be a better place without them. And if it's just about being rich like an Arab, say that. Don't undermine good people without even knowing who they are and make it as if all muslims act like non-practising "muslim" rappers.
what the hell? u dont even understand what he is saying! this song is racist. If he didnt mean what he said then why the hell is he rapping baout him? that makes him ignorant as well as racist
I know you posted this ages ago, but I'm confused as to what part of the song you think he's saying negative things about Arabic people?

All he talks about in the song is being wealthy like an Arabic oil tycoon. While that kind of greed/wealth could certainly be looked down upon in Muslim culture, the song at no point explicitly says anything negative about Muslims or Arabic people. It's just about being rich.
Right. So because your invisible person in the sky is offended the music should be banned? I am so completely nauseated by Muslims who demand that their religion be treated with upmost of respect while refusing to give the same treatment to any else's views. See, here in the Western world we educate our women, we don't murder rape victims and we prefer our speech uncensored. If you don't like that then feel free to step into your beekeeper suit and stay in your corner of the world.

I am also ridiculously sick of the word "racist" being tossed around like it's some sort of fashion accessory. It's literally the new "Nazi". There is nothing, repeat; NOTHING racist about this song and if you took just a few minutes to step down off of your religioun fueled rhetoric truck you would know that.

Now go eat a bacon sandwich, enjoy a nice tall glass of shut the hell up and enjoy the tunes!
