Get back on track, pick me up some bottles of booze
Fickle freshman, probably thinks she's cooler than you
A hay ride at five, everybody's comin' around
So go press you skirt, word is there's a new girl in town

I call shotgun, you can play your R 'n B tunes
The fellowship time, it always comes a little too soon
The land of the creeds, freshened up from baby faced shame
Put your eyes on me, and I know a place that we can get away

Just say I want you, just exactly like I used to
'Cause baby this is only bringin' me down

Home-boy's so proud, he finally got the video proof
The night vision shows, she was only duckin' the truth
It's heavy I know, the black guy with the gift down below
A choke and a gag, she spit up 'n came back for more

She said I want you, just exactly like I used to
And baby this is only bringin' me down
She said I want you

I want you, just exactly like I used to
And baby this is only bringin' me down
I said I want you, just exactly like I used to
And baby this is only bringin' me down

I go to this website to find some meaningful interpretations of this song, but instead I find myself sifting through stupid idiotic comments from stupid idiotic people. This is a thank you to all the people who actually have something meaningful to say.

    Actual lyrics:

Get back on track, pick me ups and bottles of booze The fickle freshman, probably thinks he's cooler than you A hay ride, a fire, everybody's coming around So go press your skirt, 'cause word is there's a new girl in town

I call shotgun, you can play your R&B tunes The fellowship time, always comes a little too soon Land of the creeps, freshen up and baby face shaved But your eyes on me, and I know a place that we can get away

Just say I want you just exactly like I used to And baby this is only bringing me down

Homeboy's so proud, he's finally got the video proof The night vision showed, she was only ducking the truth It's heavy I know, the black cat with the gift down below A choke and a gag, she spit up and came back for more And said I want you, just exactly I used to And baby this is only bringing me down She said I want you

Caleb is not abstinent!! Where did you get that from? He's talked about having sex in lots of interviews, but a common joke between the brothers is that he's saving himself for marriage, because obviously that's hilarious considering how sexual his songs are.

Anyway, it seems to be that he saw the girl he likes on video having sex with someone and, although it kinda sucks (bringing me down) he still wants her like before.

This song kind of sounds like an issue between 2 former lovers and the woman is trying to move on and she is in a relationship but then the ex boyfriend enters the picture again. The reason I say that about the ex-bf is because of this bit here "she said i want you, just exactly like i used to". The girl in the song obviously is making reference to a past happening (an ex bf). It sounds like caleb is implying cheating but it's hard to tell."she was only ducking the truth" maybe she was sparing someone's feelings who had feelings for her but wasn't her bf. It sounds like some of of implication is that she was lying about the night w/e it happened. Mean while this guy (who is her current bf, potential bf or w/e)gets his hands on incriminating evidence of this girls act and is bummin real bad over it "night vision shows she was only ducking the truth". In the beginning caleb seems to be referencing getting shit faced cuz he is so torn up by this turn in events. Long story short, girl likes a guy mean while another guy has feelings for the same girl and finds out about the other guy. This is just a theory, someone give me some perspective cause this song is one of my favs. on the new cd. Like so many others, I just like the whole sound of the song.

    My Interpretation

Being from the South, I can relate to this song and see it from a somewhat different way than most of the interpretations thus far.

The setting is some sort of Sunday School, or Christian Church Retreat, which generally means a group of hormone driven teenagers, boys and girls, go away for a weekend to a rural property to learn about religion and how it affects your choices in life. I remember my parents making me do these kinds of things in my adolescence up until I was a Junior in High School for my "Confirmation".

Anyway, I can remember all the mischief we got into on those retreats. Kids who brought alcohol, tobacco, and in some cases a little pot. All vying for the attention of the opposite sex.

"Get back on track, pick me up some bottles of booze The fickle freshman, probly thinks she's cooler than you A hay ride at 5, everybodys comin around So go press you shirt, cause word is there's a new girl in town"

This is expressing the idea that we're on this retreat, there's some sort of social hierarchy which is decided by our high school grade level and there is a new girl in the group this year.

"I call shotgun, you can play your R&B tunes The fellowship time, always comes a little to soon , Land of the creeps, freshened up and baby faced shaved But your eyes on me, and I know a place that we can get away"

Calling shotgun of course means getting to sit up front in the passenger seat. This stanza takes place in the cab of the truck which is administering the aforementioned hay-ride where a truck tows either a trailer or a truck bed full of hay bales. Again, perhaps the eldest in the group get the privilege of driving the truck. Fellowship time is the real reason everyone's [supposed to be] there for in the first place. In my experience it involves a church service or some sort of group activity. "Land of the creeps" refers to the place of fellowship filled with horny teenagers dressed up for worship. Last line is wishful thinking, hoping you can lock eyes with the new girl and show her a good time elsewhere.

"Homeboy's so proud, he´s finally got the video proof The night vision showed she was only duckin the truth It's heavy I know, the black cat with the gift down below A choke and a gag, she spit up n came back for more And said i want you"

Homeboy is referring to the driver of the car who is most likely of African American descent with the "R&B" tunes the passenger allowed him to play. Narrator is being showed a "sex-tape" involving black friend and the desired new girl. Fellatio ensues and ends with the girl uttering the words "i want you"... to which narrator probably looks away from the video and says "I want you, just exactly like I used to, and baby this [video evidence you fucked my black friend] is only bringin me down"

    well, that's my $0.02

Ha, I thought it was "a black guy with the gift down below."

Anyways, the lines after that are classic KOL. Love their lyrics of hookers and sexual references.

ok people..... it is "black cat with the gift down below" as written in the CD booklet. So, the girl is a black cat down below, meaning she is a firecracker in bed....That makes a ton of sense to me.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
