Ooh, yeah

I did my time, and I want out
So effusive, fade, it doesn't cut
The soul is not so vibrant
The reckoning, the sickening
Packaging subversion
Pseudo sacrosanct perversion

Go drill your deserts
Go dig your graves
Then fill your mouth with all the money you will save
Sinking in, getting smaller again
I'm done, it has begun
I'm not the only one

And the rain will kill us all
Throw ourselves against the wall
But no one else can see
The preservation of the martyr in me

Oh, there are cracks in the road we laid
But where the temple fell
The secrets have gone mad
This is nothing new
But when we killed it all
The hate was all we had

Who needs another mess?
We could start over
Just look me in the eyes and say I'm wrong
Now there's only emptiness
Venomous, insipid
I think we're done
I'm not the only one

And the rain will kill us all
Throw ourselves against the wall
But no one else can see
The preservation of the martyr in me

The limits of the dead
The limits of the dead
The limits of the dead
The limits of the dead

Fake anti-fascist lie (psychosocial)
I tried to tell you but (psychosocial)
Your purple hearts are giving out (psychosocial)
Can't stop a killing idea (psychosocial)
If it's hunting season (psychosocial)
Is this what you want? (Psychosocial)
I'm not the only one

And the rain will kill us all
Throw ourselves against the wall
But no one else can see
The preservation of the martyr in me

And the rain will kill us all
Throw ourselves against the wall
But no one else can see
The preservation of the martyr in me

The limits of the dead
The limits of the dead

The song seems to be critical of both the way the world works and, to a lesser extent, the failure of religion to give us an answer as to why. Bear with me:

I did my time, and I want out. So effusive - fade - it doesn't cut. The soul is not so vibrant. The reckoning, the sickening. Packaging subversion. Pseudo sacrosanct perversion. Go drill your deserts, go dig you graves. Then fill your mouth with all the money you have saved. Sinking in, getting smaller again. I'm done, it has begun. I'm not the only one.

(I've been a part of this consumerist paradise for too long, and now I want something real. I've realised that there's more to life than money, and I'm not the only one)

And the rain will kill us all. We throw ourselves against the wall. But no-one else can see, the preservation of the martyr in me.

(Yes, we will die no matter what we do, but nobody realises how willing I am to die to prove a point. We're not invincible, and your life should be spent LIVING rather than EARNING.)

Psychosocial! Psychosocial! Psychosocial! Psychosocial! Psychosocial! Psychosocial!

Oh, there are cracks in the road we laid. But where the temple fell. The secrets have gone mad. This is nothing new, but when we kill it all. The hate was all we had. Who needs another mess? We could start over. Just look me in the eyes and say I'm wrong. Now there's only emptiness. Venomous, insepid. I think we're done, I'm not the only one.

(In the past we've looked to religion for answers, but when we realised how fruitless it was and abandoned our religions, all we had left was hatred of our world. You can't deny that we could ALL make a concerted effort to make the world a better place, but you'll never do it because you love your money too much. Because of greed, the world is a grim place, filled with hate and stupidity. I'm sick of it, and I'm not the only one.)

Fake anti-facist lie. I tried to tell you, but your purple hearts are giving out. Can't stop a killing idea if it's hunting season. Is this what you want? I'm not the only one!

(You compare our democracy to extreme forms of government so we'll think we have it better than anyone else, but it's obvious a few rich elites REALLY rule this place. I've tried to warn people, but they'd rather not hear the truth. We're all looking for an answer, and you can't stop people believing what's most convenient for them. Is to continue to be lied to and led what you REALLY want? I'm not the only one who's sick of this.)

At least, this is my interpretation. I could always be wrong.

I like the album version better, both are great, but I think this version(w/ the true lyrics) is truer to what the narroter is trying to point out.

    First of all its ..

**"Fake avel, fascist lie I tried to tell you But your purple hearts are giving out. Can't stop a killing idea if it's hunting season. Is this what you want? I'm not the only one."

Since I corrected it why not throw in what it really means.

"Fake avel, Fascist lie." (This means the government fakes their pulling out of Iraq and lies about it in a corrupt super republican way)

"I tried to tell you, but your purple hearts are giving out." (This means that people try to stand up and say something about the Iraq war, but everyone is just so caught up in supporting the troops and honoring them that they don't realize what they are fighting for.)

"Can't stop a killing idea if it's hunting season." (This means that no one can stop this from happening during wartime no matter the amount of protests.)

"Is this what you want? I'm not the only one." (This is being said in a sort of sarcastic way, like saying that this isn't what America wants and he's not the only one who disagrees with it.)

    My Interpretation

I think he is basicaly saying that we, as a species and as a people are doing the wrong thing and that we are all going to die. "Go drill your deserts, go dig you graves. Then fill your mouth with all the money you have saved." "Oh, there are cracks in the road we laid. But where the temple fell."

The lyric "But no-one else can see, the preservation of the martyr in me." means that he is willing to die to save us and he has worked hard to preserve this idea, but no-one else sees.(hence the lyric)

The lyric "The limits of the dead!" means that we can't undo what we have done when we are dead, so we must act now before we all die.

PS. I also believe it is spelled reign instead of rain because this would mean that those who rule u(i.e. the government) are driving us into the ground.

    Well what does rain mean?

In the movie Transformers, the term "bring the rain" basically meant bomb them.

In that sense, I interpret as we are warring all the time, and with war comes better weaponry and more destructive tools. It seems to me that he is saying that all of this war is going to kill us all, which will happen before we realize we need to fix it, but the dead can't do anything about it. He uses modern day examples to convey his point.

Psychosocial is the interaction of psychological and social factors. Our social interactions are hate towards others, we hate others which leads to the behavior (psychology is the study of behavior) to kill off everyone else, which leads into what I have said in the previous paragraph.

    That's my opinion.

Holiday

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
