"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
Take a minute to tell you right
And you can say what you want
Turn around every night
So now you're always going off
Doesn't matter what I done
Or if I even crossed the line
Is that the hollar going for blood
Girl, it doesn't have to be a fight
Throwing out the blame when you know it ain't my fault
Messing with my brain when you want to see me fall
There may come a time when I don't bother you at all
It isn't my call, it isn't my call
Hey, why you keep screaming at the top of your head?
I say hey
why you keep screaming at the top of your head?
I say hey
why you keep screaming at the top of your head?
I say hey
why you keep screaming at the top of your head?
There's no need to scream, baby
I'm standing right in front of your face
Why?
I know sometimes we don't get along
So Chris sing the second verse to you
Like this
Take a minute to tell you now
and I don't have to raise my tone
Take the level and bring it down
I just want you to know
I got no trouble with what you said
I don't even think you're wrong
It's how you say it
You lose your head
Girl, I'm standing right in front of you
Throwing out the blame when you know it ain't my fault
Messing with my brain when you want to see me fall
There may come a time when I don't bother you at all
It isn't my call, it isn't my call
Hey, why you keep screaming at the top of your head?
I say hey
why you keep screaming at the top of your head?
I say hey
why you keep screaming at the top of your head?
I say hey
why you keep screaming at the top of your head?
Silence is golden
I used to think that silence was golden
Silence is golden
I used to think that silence was golden
Silence is golden

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
Holiday
Bee Gees
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
Blue

Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
Plastic Bag

Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
I agree with anabelle3982. This song is about a problem in relationships where one person has a problem with communication. Instead of talking things out they yell about everything.
"Doesn't matter what I've done Or if I even crossed the line"
Pretty soon the screaming becomes normal and the fighting is always no matter what has been done. This is a situation where there is either angered silence or there is a screaming match. There is no in between. the one getting screamed at does not understand why it is like that but knows eventually they are going to snap because they cannot handle it much more.
"Silence is golden I used to think that silence was golden"
this basically means that the angered silence is no better then the screaming. There is no in between and they know it.
I particularly love this line: "I say hey, why you keep screaming at the top of your head?(hey i hear)"
The sarcastic humor in "hey I hear" LOL as if to say my ears work just fine just quit screaming. Or at least that is my thoughts. Anyone else??
i agree completely with you Jelleephish. where someone in the relationship goes too over board with being agrey about nothing really. and i love that line as well "hey i hear" remindes me of a friend that would say "ok ok ok heeyy!! stop yelling I'm not deaf" everytime things got too loud lol :)
oh and the part where he says "it doesn't have to be a fight" or something. the other person is looking for reasons now to start things. silly reasons that no longer make sense. just looking to start a fight. "doesn't matter what i've done" because all they're looking for is drama.
i have loved his voice before i knew his name...
i love this song.. its about the lack of communication relationships have, and one person seems to raise their voice instead of talking through it.
This songs seems to be about a dead relationship where one person is scrared to leave just because of the change and the other blows up not because they're angry but because they can't stand where they are in life. The one tries to tell the other that it is all fine but the other wont listen and keeps releiving their rage on the other.
How has no one commented on this song yet?!?!?!? This is AMAZING...it's on constant repeat on my iPod
This is Chris Cornell angry in a very melodic sort of way. So catchy though.
This song makes me feel like I am always fighting with myself and I am always in a constant struggle to keep my cool and I am always upset about nothing!!!!
Its not bad, But it seems so simple for chris cornell compared to audioslave and soundgarden.
It's just an amazing and gorgeous song - Chris Cornell's absolutely unique voice together with the melody -> Masterpiece! Keep on hearing it in my car and on my iPod & PC
