Gas Dance Lyrics

There she was
Graciously making forever less terrifying
And you've got the nerve to intervene
With a coloring book and a byro and a point to prove
And now you want a word

And you washed all the wisdom out your mouth
And the gas danced on the edge of your bottom lip
Quick to scurry back behind the night
To avoid the silent fight and the struggle

There I was
Panicking because someone else kissed me in a dream
and it was on the cheek
And you stamp your feet
And I'm moving from bored to appalled by these poignant fumes
That you must inflict

And you washed all the wisdom out your mouth
And the gas danced on the edge of your bottom lip
Someone told me that that stench was called advice
Someone told me that that stench was called advice

Took a solid breath
To a little rip
I've got to carry your brooch to cover that hideous stitch
All that grim repair
And we're all upset
See the fear in your cheeks
And I still smell the lies on your breath
And your jokes don't bounce
And you've entered the early stages of bitterness

And you washed all the wisdom out your mouth
And the gas danced on the edge of your bottom lip
Quick to scurry back behind the night
To avoid the silent fight and the struggle

Normally there isn't that much distinction between the voices of Miles and Alex, but with this song I'm sorry to say that Alex' part is a thousand times better. Or maybe I just heard a version where Miles had a sore troath or summat.

Either way, it´s a great song, especially the first half is really intriquing, although someone has to explain the gas dancing on the edge of her bottom lip for me. It's obviously a metaphor of some sort but I can't seem to figure it out.

hmmm, what version did you hear ?

I find the part where Miles first starts to sing to be pretty amazing "Quick to scurry back behind the night To avoid the silent fight and the struggle" The Studio version as well as the live versions of this song are great...

And "gas" does also mean lies/bullshit. So the -gas dancing on her bottom lip- part means that he knows, that she is about to tell a lie...

And there is even the sentence from Miles: "And I still smell the lies on your breath"

Im not sure what this song is exactly about, its either:

-About a girlfriend constantly lying & yelling, and him knowing that she is lying and thus losing interest in her

-About a girlfriend cheating on a guy... but shes the one beeing mad at the guy for beeing so laid back and not getting mad at her at all for doing that... hes even scared of her "Panicking because someone else kissed me in a dream"

-The part "And you've got the nerve to intervene" could also mean that he is dreaming about that perfect girl, and his real girlfriend wakes him up to talk about the problems in their relationship

Note: What does "Grim Repair" mean ? or should it be "Grim Reaper" ?
