The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
(La da la yeah yeah)
You've been tripping down,
Down to Buffalo,
Like you don't care no more
And it's alright if you tell me before you're gone.
I asked you to your face.
You weren't listening.
You said it's nothing, but
Now you won't call.
We can't talk anymore.
'Cause you've found someone else I thought you never would
I can't say that I like it better now.
'Cause you've found someone else I thought you never would
I can't say that I like it better now.
Do you remember when
Oh, the sun would rise
Through your window,
And I'd be waiting to say hello
Good morning?
And I was spoken, so soft spoken.
Well you helped me out.
Now we're falling
Never to be heard about.
'Cause you've found someone else I thought you never would
I can't say that I like it better now.
'Cause you've found someone else I thought you never would
I can't say that I like it better now.
I don't like it better now.
I don't like it better now.
I don't like it better now.
I don't like it better now.
(Better now. Better now)
I don't like it better now.
I don't like it better now.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
I think this song is about how he thought he was over someone, when really he's not, and he's reminiscing a bit about the relationship.
