Everyday feels like a Monday
There is no escaping from the heartache
Now I wanna put it back together
'Cause it's always better late then never

Wishin' I could be in California
I wanna tell you when I call you
I could've fallen in love
I wish I'd fallen in love

Out of our minds and out of time
Wishin' I could be with you
And to share the view
We could've fallen in love

Waking up to people talking
And it's getting later every morning
That I realize it's nearly midday
And I've wasted half my life
To throw it away saying

Everyday should be a new day
To make you smile and find a new way
Of falling in love
I could have fallen in love

Out of our minds, out of time
Wishin' I could be with you to share the view
Oh, we could've fallen in love
Oh, we could've fallen in love

I'm sick of waiting
I can't take it, gotta tell ya
I'm sick of waiting
I can't take it, gotta tell ya

I can't take another night on my own
So I take a breath and then I pick up the phone
She said, she said, she said

We could have fallen in love
Oh, we could've fallen in love
Oh, we could've fallen in love
Yeah, we could've fallen in love

Oh, we could've fallen in love
I wish I'd fallen in love

I think the song is about someone who is trying to get over a breakup and it’s hard for them to move on because this person believes in his heart that if they had stayed together they would’ve fell in love with each other. Now I have a question (and this may sound dumb but oh well): The part when Danny says “And I can’t take another night on my own so I take a breath and then I pick up the phone. She said ohh ohh ohh ohh” I’m pretty sure that meant that he called his ex to tell her how he felt and she just said “oh.” Like she didn’t feel the same way. If I am correct (which I’m almost positive) that is so heartbreaking–having these strong feelings you’ve never felt before and then have that person not feel the same. Story of my life.

I LOOOVVVEEEE this song and this band. I think is about wishing you were with that person again because you knew they were perfect and you would of fallen in love. and i agree with AshleyKing about the "ohh" thing.

I like listening to this song. There was this girl who i fell in love with but she didn't feel the same way and now she's dating someone else and every time i hear this i can feel her next to me. We had a lot of fights but i accept that some people are just not meant to be.

    My Interpretation

This song is so sad, it always leaves me heart-broken.

So, the couple in the song probably broke up because she was moving to California, and he keeps thinking that if they had some more time together, they could have fallen in love. That's what makes it so heart-breaking, it tells about a love that could have happened, but it didn't, their love was interrupted. That's the thing about the song, the disillusionment of an "almost".

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
