How could she be
With a wretch like me
I'm a broken shell of a man that never was
I'd trade all that we've made
Just for one more date with destruction

I'm not being fair to you
I'm lyin' to myself
It hurts to see her face sittin' on my shelf
Beside the others

You're the cutest thing
I've seen
You're all a man could need
But I'm lifeless

I need to tell you no
I just can't let her go
'Cause I'm selfish
So selfish

I'm not being fair to you
I'm lyin' to myself
It hurts to see her face
Sittin' on my shelf
Beside the others

If I could tell you one thing
I think that you should know
I'm not afraid to love you
Just of letting go

If love and comfort
Are the same thing
Then why can't I ever find my way out?
I want to say we're strong
We can carry on

But I'm dragging you down
Ya I'm bringing you down
I'm dragging you down with me

I'm not being fair to you
I'm lyin' to myself
It hurts me to see her face
Sitting on my shelf

If I could tell you one thing
I think that you should know
I'm not afraid to love you
Just of letting go
Just of letting go
Just of letting go

No comments? Kidding me? Anyways. Moving on.

This song, In my opinion is amazing. To me it tells a story. The guy is hurt inside, and feels worthless, the girl he once loved has died, and he keeps her picture on his shelf, beside the photos of his other loved ones( possibly who also are deceased). And he is now in a relationship with another girl, who he feels is better than him, but she somehow loves him. He wants to love her back, but can't, and is ruining both their lives. He can't love her, because his heart is set on the idea that if he gets to close to her or anyone, he will lose her, and he can't let it happen.

My boyfriend dedicated this song to me when we first started dating. He did it because it totally and completely talked about something we were going through at the time.

He had just broken up with his girlfriend, or rather, she had left him. I felt a little bit like a rebound, he and I had been friends for a long time, much longer than she had been around. When she left he was hurting, and we started going out and even though he kept telling me how much he loved me and was glad I was there, he still talked about Nic all the time! I felt quite awful and tried to figure out some way to break it off, even though I loved him and didn't want to leave. Then he told me that this song was exactly how he was feeling.

Even though he loved me he was afraid to let go of Nic. Now, however, we're still together and Nic is forgotten, but this song still means so much to me!!!

I think supermanslover9 really nailed it. It's about starting a new relationship with someone, while someone else is still haunting your mind. "It hurts to see her face/ Sittin' on my shelf/ Beside the others" ~ I think the shelf is a metaphor for the mind, and this ex is still someone he thinks about everyday, is always 'there' in a way. Also, 'beside the others' could be talking about how it has happened before, but he has never really gotten over any of them. It's a real challenge, I know, and the hard part isn't moving on, instead it is forgetting an old love. And he feels totally guilty because he can't control his emotions about the ex, but still tries to lie and convince the new girlfriend that he's ready to start over and love someone new...

personally, i think this song is about a guy who can't give up on the girl he loves and has got away. so he plays the new girl he's with and doesn't give her his whole heart because it belongs to the other. and he wants to love the new girl but he's scared that it'll all be ruined like the last girl he loved. he thinks the new girl deserves better because he's to selfish to give up the old girl. he's beating himself up about it. quite sad.

I think this song simply means the guy is a player. He has been hurt in the past (If I could tell you one thing I think that you should know I'm not afraid to love you Just of letting go) But when he meets this girl he feels bad because he's too "selfish" to let go of all the other girls he has. He believes that she's better off without him because he will "drag" her down.

    My Interpretation

I have to agree with Huani. When my fiancée passed it destroyed me, and I kinda keep every woman I've dated at an arm's length. It almost feels like I'm cheating on her. I know I'm not, and I know she'd want me to be happy without her, but still...
