Supercollider Lyrics

Super collider
Dust in a moment
Particles scatter
Parting from the soup

Swimming upstream
Before the heavens crack open
Thin pixelations
Coming out from the dust

In a blue light
In a green light
In a half light
In a work light

In a B-spin
Flip flopping
In a pulse wave
Outstepping

To put the shadows back into
The boxes

I am open
I am welcome
For a fraction
Of a second

I have jettisoned my illusions
I have dislodged my depressions

I put the shadows back into
The boxes

I see angels hanging over
The back of me
I see angels hanging over
The back of me

(sorry for typos english is my 2nd language) TO ME : This song interprets our universe as it expands through dark energy(which is what keeps us expanding infinitely). The 11th dimension of M-Theory(also called Supersymmetry) are said to be proof our horizon may no longer be unreachable.... the Obvious connection lays on the LARGE HADRON COLLIDER and the way it works , chronologically describes each moment of the coming together and speed up process of the particles collision.

  1. "THE heavens crack open"- refers to how this may be the prove that there is no heaven but the one within your mind.

  2. "Before it leaves crack open , thin pixelation..." -a noted references of the HUGE 50,000 megapixels cameras waiting for the moment the HEAVENS WILL CRACK (these set up around the diameter of the "SOUP" to take images of the man created big bang.

3."I put the shadows back into their boxes" , referring to the MYSTERY , HUMANITYs biggest QUESTION , the SHADOW of GOD or the one of NOT GOD. The light casted from the explosion to the shadow of GOD (creator) ... making it visible for us humans to know the TRUTH behind our biggest shadow.

For most mind travelers , it is rational to think there are OTHER dimensions on this UNIVERSE , but we may only see them in our minds

TO me its like Thom sees himself as being that molecule traveling around the big "SOUP" going faster , describing what he sees, what he feels , flip flopping , hot stepping , Light bends into space as closer we get to the speed of light he describes the cold feeling of a BLUE light with the GREEN LIGHT that THE KING OF LIMBS has given us.

Lets NOT FORGET HOW PERFECT THIS CLOSES OUT THE KING OF LIMBS by "DISLODGING MY DEPRESSION"

"Angels hanging from the balcony".... the significance of of ANGELS no longer the same ... after the SUPER COLLIDER.

and thats my Opinion and interpretation. All feedback welcome , RADIOHEAD NEVER STOP TO CEASE the IMAGES that through your sound waves you put in our heads and bounce them back and forth , haunting notes of wisdom. BRILLIANT this song , simply brilliant!!! RADIOHEAD=UNIQUENESS

My Interpretation

Before the CERN super collider was started up there was much wringing of hands about what might happen. Some scientists actually suggested we don't know what we're doing and that we might actually set off a reaction that could destroy the world. A similar argument was often made during the Manhattan Project. Oppenheimer later quoted ancient Indian scripture to describe himself "I am become death."

This song, I believe, has several voices - that of the scientist watching the colored lights, that of the concerned citizen (trust in the moment) and most important of all the voice of the "thing" exposed during that fraction of a fraction of a billionth of a second after the particles collide. It is that thing that puts the shadows back into their boxes. It is that thing that is opened and welcomed into the world for a fraction of a second. And it is that thing that sees angels hanging over the balcony.

Angels, according to Zoroastrian/Judaic/Christian and Muslim beliefs, often watch what we humans do and in this case they are so fascinated to see if we will destroy ourselves that they are not just watching passively but hanging over the balcony of heaven to watch.

great analysis and interpretation

Lyrics: Super collider dust in a moment particles scatter brought in from the ... swimming upstream before the heavens crack open thin pixellated coming up from the dust

in a blue light in a green light in a half life in an arc light in a ... spin flip-flopping in a ... I'd step in to put the shadows back into the box

I am open I am welcome for a fraction of a second I have jettisoned my illusions I have dislodged my depression

I put the shadows back into the boxes

I put the shadows back into the boxes

Obviously about trying to get rid of depression using an analogy of how the 'super collider' works... by shattering every particle (of expectations in this case).

It feels like an unfinished song. But i am starting to understand it. It's just not satisfying to me emotionally--not lyrically or musically.

Thanks for the lyrics guys. Thom played this song last summr in Amsterdam. Simply gotta love it.

Meaning is open to your won favourite interpretation (as in all radiohead lyrics) but there is a clear reference to the big protone collier build in Switserland (CERN). 'particles scatter' etc.

fakeplastickees, those lyrics you typed are only from the first performance... apparently Thom forgot the correct lyrics, so those are the ones he came up with on the spot. GoochyLittlePig's lyrics are accurate for the subsequent performances, where he had the lyrics ready.

LP8... It's going to be epic, isn't it?

The fact that this song hasn't been recorded is probably the best evidence that there must be a King of Limbs follow-up of some sort coming soon. This is just such an incredible song, it would be a shame if it weren't recorded.
