The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

They're not writing what they're writing because they think it's what people want to hear, and they certainly don't only fit the "emo" label. They write what they write because it means something to them. They put their hearts in it so that others can feel something from it too, and that's something they can never be faulted for. This song is absolutely beautiful. I'm not exactly sure of the meaning yet; there are so many versions of the lyrics, it's kind of hard to keep track.
One thing clear: MCR ARE NOT SELLOUTS! sellouts are when they write about strippers, making out and dancing for people who like to hear about it cuz it's "cool" and they do it for big money and dont care about their fans. MCR loves their fans, writes how their feeling and sure they do it for money, but that's not all they care about!
I think this is a song about 2 people knowing eachother for a long time, and eventually they both start to fall in love even though the guy has liked the girl forever. But then a new guy walks into the picture and takes the girls away, leaving the old guy heartbroken, and he keeps trying to be with the girl, and she demands he leaves, so he goes away, telling her he knows he's not worthy. In the end , she regrets her decision i think, and hes like "Well YOU wanted me to go" and doesnt take her back.
