Go!

I want to tear a big hole in what is to be,
To end all this infatuation with unity,
I'm seeking my salvation alone again,
I never needed to be one of you anyway
Don't wanna be another player losing in this game
I'm trying to impress upon you
We're not the same
My own individuality is so unique,
I'm one impressive motherfucker
Now, wouldn't you say

(Break apart and)

Divide Divide Divide Divide
You might say that I'm the last man standing now,
Though you'll try, you'll never find a way to break me
You might say that I'm sick of being lost in the crowd,
I hear the sirens but they're never gonna take me

I am a little more provocative then you might be,
It's your shock and then your horror on which I feed
So can you tell me what exactly does freedom mean,
If I'm not free to be as twisted as I wanna be
Don't wanna be another player losing in this game
I'm trying to impress upon you
We're not the same
My psychotic mentality is so unique
I'm one aggressive motherfucker
Now, wouldn't you say

(Break apart and)

Divide Divide Divide Divide
You might say that I'm the last man standing now,
Though you'll try, you'll never find a way to break me
You might say that I'm sick of being lost in the crowd,
I hear the sirens but they're never gonna take me

(They won't take me)

Well fuck it all!

Break Break Break Break
(Break apart and divide)
Break Break Break Break
(Break apart and divide)
Break Break Break Break
(Break apart and divide)
Break Break Break Break
(Break apart and...)

Divide Divide Divide Divide
Divide Divide, break apart and divide

Divide Divide Divide Divide
Divide Divide, break apart and

Divide Divide Divide Divide
Divide Divide, break apart and divide

Divide Divide Divide Divide
Divide Divide Divide Divide

This song just slaps you in the face with individuality

To mygoditsalive: The song, in fact is not sarcastic at all. In an interview with David Draiman ( the singer and writer), Draiman said the song was about bring different, about being your self, not anyone else. Basically, it's a song that just says "f*** you" possibly punches you in the face, and keeps walking.

This song makes me want to scream to the whole world!!! t(-_-t)

People used to cut me down when I was younger just because I don't do shit like they do. I really didn't care what they thought, I just shrugged them off. But now, the assholes are back, though, I can't physically see them, I know they're there. They wanted so badly for me to be like them, but what they seem not to understand, their twisted game brought out more from me than what they wanted to see. Like I had said before, if you can't take me for being me, than get the fuck away from me. Oh, and crowds, are just another way to drown in everyone else's bullshit.

    I think it's facetious.

Agreed on the facetiousness of the song. The boasts, and particularly the line "My own individuality is so unique" are clearly jabs at those "more different than you" types who see random acts of violence and vandalism as anarchistic, and who embrace the idea that they're somehow special compared to the rest of the world; it's the delusions of a washed-up would-be anarchist who misses the mark by being so obsessed with "going against the flow" that they fail to see the truth of their own pop-culture identity.

I think a whole lot of people miss the point of this song.

It's not a power anthem for "individuality"

It's a sarcastic slap in the face. The character brags about how "impressive" he is, but his claims gradually becomes more absurd as the song progresses.

I think the band wrote this song to be facetious, but at the same time knew that a lot of their teenage fanbase would embrace it as a form or empowerment, seeing as on the surface it appears to be an full-on endorsement of behavior that generally fails to have any positive influence on society.

Based on such songs as "Land of Confusion" however, as well as many of the songs on the "Ten Thousand Fists" album, I think it can be conferred that the band Disturbed has nothing at all against unity, and furthermore fully supports positive social action.

Because of this I believe that the song "Divide" is a humorous satire and not much more.

This song is truly epic, one of the best on the album, and thats saying a lot! The lyrics aren't incredibly cryptic, its obviously about a nonconformist, someone who doesn't want to just blend in and be normal, someone who wants to stand out and be their own person and doesn't want to be ridiculed for not being part of the crowd. Great song...

Agree with Demented and Lakajj. It's funny that a lot of rock music has this type of theme, but it's nowhere to be found in RnB or Hip Hop lol. At least lyrics in here have meaning!

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
