It's stranger than fiction
How you've decayed
It must be so lonely
Lost within your ways

You're born alone, you die alone
The rest is yours to fill the gap
The world goes on without you here
Adjust or just collapse

Is this what you wanted to be
Alone standing by yourself
Is this all you wanted to be
Or was that a cry for help
By yourself, by yourself, by yourself

Verbal grenades
You throw in vain
I can't believe you'd stoop so low
Of all the things you took away
I miss my mind the most

Is this what you wanted to be
Alone standing by yourself
Is this all you wanted to be
Or was that a cry for help
By yourself, by yourself, by yourself

Is this what you wanted to be
Alone standing by yourself
Is this all you wanted to be
Or was that a cry for help

Is this what you wanted to be
Alone standing by yourself
Is this all you wanted to be
Or was that a cry for help

It's stranger than fiction
How you've decayed
It must be so lonely
Lost within your ways

I think most of the people talking about relationships and evil in spouses are reading to into it. He's simply saying that birth and death are journies you must undertake alone, but life is for you to make of it what you will. After this he's talking about a person obviously so caught up in themselves that they are driving everyone around them away. This can refer to anyone, a girlfriend, friend, family member, hell even an addict. It all depends on who is listening to the song.

I was just about to submit these lyrics myself, but I see its already been done, and without error, no less. Either way, great song, greater band.

I think this is a song about the EVIL in women, (LOL) Its about a girl who changed for the worse, and didnt care how she messed with his head. The line"Verbal Grenades you throw in inane, I cant believe you'd stoop so LOW, of all the things you took away, I miss my MIND the most. Then at the end it says "It's stranger than fiction how you've decayed, It must be so lonely LOST within your ways. He is talking about how Its so unbelievable how she's changed and is now by herself because she is stuck living her bad ways and prolly dont want to change. Maybe she should listen to the ending of White Knuckles when Ivan says "I want you to HURT, I want you to BLEED, I want you to look beyond your own face, Past your infections.

The BEST thing about 5FDP is that every song they have is GOOD. There is not a bad song on THE WAY OF THE FIST. There is NO WAY that this ALBUM is not worthy of ALBUM of the YEAR.

This song is easily one of the best songs off the way of the fist. 5fdp is the best band to come out of denver. period. This song talk about how a girl completely fucked over a guy when all he did was care for her during whatever she was going thru. This song explains something i've dealt with before, I love it.

This song is definately talking about the way relationships can decay it talks of how verbal greades and such occur after a while people get tired of eachothers crap and get into fights more often and do things they normally wouldnt do to the perosn they love sometimes they realize where its going and fix things sometimes they dont but i believe in this case here he i saying that it is her fault as she was the one who stooped that low and then most likely left him cause she took many things and obviously he still cared about her as he is losing his mind now also he asks her is this what you want to be alone

clearly saying that he wishes he was still there with her

perfect parrallel to my recent breakup except both people were doing stuff to make eachother angry and my girl and i realized how much we missed eachother finally =] but its tough for sure thats definately eveident as he say by yourself with emphasis because that is the worst part of all of that

I can relate to this song. It does seem like it about getting screwed over.

I don't believe this song is about a girl..i believe it's about how a guy(possibly Ivan) was screwed over by his best friend or maybe a family member he was close too.

    My Interpretation

Obviously its just a song telling this un-named woman "Is this what you wanted all along?"

I've had my share of relationships that ended just like this, and yes, I still wonder if thats what she wanted out of it all.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
