Well I've heard there was a sacred chord
David played and it pleased the lord
But you don't really care for music, do ya?

Well it goes like this, the fourth, the fifth
The minor fall
And the major lift,
The baffled king composing hallelujah

Hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah

Well, your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing up on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you.

And she tied you her kitchen chair
She broke your throne
She cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the hallelujah

Hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah

Well baby I have been here before
I've seen this room, and I've walked this floor
You know I used to live alone before I knew ya.

And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah

Hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah

Well there was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show that to me, do ya?

And remember when I moved in you
The holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was hallelujah

Hallelujah, hallelujah,
Hallelujah, hallelujah

Well maybe there's a god above
But all I ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you.

And it's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah

Oo hallelujah, oo hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah

Hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah

i think its about her telling a story about "david" creating a song on the piano. "...the secret chord... Well it goes like this: the fourth, the fifth The minor fall and the major lift" and the king liked it so much that he cried out "hallelujah." but the person theyre telling the story to doesnt really like music? then david thought he was great? or was becoming someone, but he needed to be sure... (second verse)so he saw this girl bathing and her beauty threw him off, but shes actually like, really bad. "She tied you to her kitchen chair She broke your throne and she cut your hair And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah" she messed him up bad, and took the one thing that he knew was sure in his life and destroyed it. (third verse)the person telling the story has been at the same low times as the one being told the story. and saying that they used to be a lone before the one was in their life. does that make sense? and the "flag" might be like a white flag, for giving up? and maybe its saying that love is hard, you just have to keep working at it? "And love is not a victory march It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah" maybe "hallelujah" means like your greatest accomplishment? maybe? i dont know. im still trying to figure that out. i think the fourth verse is talking to the actually person this time and theyre saying that they used to tell them what was going on with them, and getting them involved with their life? but not anymore cause its hard for them? and whenever they were getting to know each other again, they seemed to be like they used to but only the other person was more...happy? "But remember when I moved in you And the holy dove was moving too And every breath we drew was Hallelujah" and everything was getting better. like life was coming smoothly the way they wanted it too. (fifth verse)"Maybe there is a god above But all I've ever learned from love Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you" not actually shoot someone. but try to cut them down? but it also doesnt have to be someone living. it could mean something that signifies it. "And it's not a cry that you hear at night It's not somebody who's seen the light It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah" your unfinished business? your goals that you never followed through on? i dont know, thats what i got out of it. maybe this would help you? :)

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
