I feel the top of the room come off,
kill everybody there
and I'm watching all the stars burn out,
trying to pretend that I care

But I didn't,
(no-one ever does)
and I won't,
(no-one ever will)

Can't you see it's all flown out of my hands
and our clothes (are all too often ripped)
and our teeth (are all too often gnashed)
and it lasts as long as it possibly can

but I just don't
I just don't accept this
'cause I just don't accept this at all

and I just don't
but I just don't accept this
'cause I just don't accept this at all

and I just don't
and I just don't accept this
'cause I just don't accept this at all

and I just don't
and I just don't accept this
'cause I just don't accept this at all

Faces sweaty, arms and legs,
what a glorious set of stairs we make [x3]

Faces sweaty, arms and legs,
We kill everyone with
Arrowheads [x75]
(Thank god that's over)

I feel the top of the room come off,
kill everybody there
and I'm watching all the stars burn out,
trying to pretend that I care

But I didn't, no-one ever does,
and I won't, no-one ever will

Can't you see it's all flown out of my hands
and our clothes (are all too often ripped)
and our teeth (are all too often gnashed)
and it lasts as long as it possibly can

The narrator is expressing his extreme apathy at the destruction and death occuring all around him, while trying to muster some empathy for it all, but only being able to “pretend to care".

From reading the book that came with the record I'm pretty sure this is about "The Great Hunter" building a staircase out of bodies towards the heavens and then killing God with a bow and arrow(s)

    My Opinion

"..but I didn't, no one ever does, and I won't, no one ever will." That's just what it sounds like to me and I think that makes more sense. Just a suggestion.

easily one of the best track from their first cd, the sound texture and the dynamic of this song is superb. was looking for the lyrics for this album for a while now, wish there were more lyrics uploaded here.

I think this is an expression of disgust at the behavior of humans. Disbelief, perhaps, at how easily people are willing to escalate to violence.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

When We Were Young
Blink-182
This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Magical

How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Punchline
