Deeper, I know you want it deeper
You know you want it deeper
I think we're going deeper
I know you want it

Faster, I know you want it faster
I know you want it faster
These days we're moving faster
I think we're moving

Further, I know we're going further
You know we're going further
Yeah, now we're climbing further
And I can see it

Warmer, yeah, now you're getting warmer
Feel like you're getting closer
Yeah, now you're getting so hot
Feel like you're burning

Surprise, surprise, you're on your own
It's in your eyes, the love's you've known
And the one's you loved
You lost completely

Darker, outside it's getting darker
Yeah, now it's getting darker
At last it's getting darker
And I can see it

Louder, yeah, now it's getting louder
The noise is getting louder
The night is getting louder
And I can hear it

Stronger and now you're going stronger
Yeah, now you're getting stronger
You're finally growing stronger
And I can feel it

Surprise, surprise, you're on your own
It's in your eyes, the love's you've known
And the one's you loved
You lost completely

So let yourself down tonight
Anywhere, I'll take you out tonight
Anywhere, put on that dress you like
Anywhere

The one with birds on it, they're flying around
Now when you're short of breath
Go anywhere and when your heart's in pieces
Anywhere, I'll take you out tonight

the first time i herd this song i thought it was a bit raver.. the last two versus really got me.. made me think about a time ive experienced. lyrics like that can make a song when they're impacting.

i think the songs about a relationship that you knows going to fall apart and can see it happening.. not to sure but thats my interpretation.

Its obviously pretty sexual. I thinkk as well its a bit of a soft raver. The song to me is about a one night stand, with a girl who has lost all self respect. any other ideas?

I think the sexual lyrics on there can work two ways, as the aforementioned and also as something else...a relationship getting too close for comfort...she might want things 'deeper, faster, further and warmer'...references to time passing and feeling 'closer' as in closer in distance.

He leaves her, perhaps 'you're on your own' OR now the 'you' is 'him' and he's now, typically, on his own after being so fickle.

So he lapses into depression (darker, louder..etc) and then hints at building up the courage to commit (stronger).

That massive bridge at the end pushes 'him' down the tunnel to the light at the end and he chooses to be with her. (I'll take you out tonight...anywhere).

I think it's one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

This is my take on the lyrics...

Yeah now you're getting warmer, Feel like you're getting closer, Yeah now you're getting so hot, Feel like you're burning

When I first listened to this I felt like I was being worked up for something. While it might hold sexual connotations metaphorically speaking, I don't think that's what it's about. That first verse in particular sort of ends in disappointment. She enjoys having a bit of fun with the guy but when it starts getting a little too hot to handle, she backs off.

Surprise surprise, You're on your own It's in your eyes The love's you've known And the one's you loved, You lost completely

She's a repeat offender. She's a bit of a heartbreaker. She's let him go, like all the other guys and he saw it coming but refused to believe he'd be just the same as all the other guys.

So let yourself down tonight, Anywhere I'll take you out tonight, Anywhere

He still can't get away from her although she hurt him.

Firstly - very possible for a song to have more than one interpretation people.

I think it's about getting involved in a relationship, or even just an encounter, that's too intense to handle, and all the repercussions of it, yet still deciding to give it a shot.

    My Interpretation

i think its a break up. i just broke up with my ex, and this song totally spoke to me, everything the song talked about, i was going through or feeling. pressure, uncertainty, loneliness, depression, and the want/need to just GO....anywhere.

then maybe trying to make it up to her by taking her out, "put on that dress you like anywhere"

definitely a painful song if you ask me

black&green - I totally agree. :) That's what I thought of too, though, maybe not QUITE the same because, well, I thought it said: "Your on, your on" instead of "Your on, your own." But it makes much more sence now! :D Thanks

    My Interpretation

I seem to have taken to this in a different way to most people. The first time I listened to the song I wasn't that big a fan until the end of the song where I literally got shivers.

I think that the song is about a woman but from the perspective of her long time friend. I think the "surprise, surprise" can almost be taken as a sort of sarcasm or tiredness. I think the main verses (deeper, faster, etc.) are the stages of a feeling that the woman goes through as the relationship progresses and eventually (surprise, surprise) ends in feelings of darkness and noise.

I think the end of the song (as in my opinion it was sung with a kind of exhausted passion) is about the friend offering to show her a good night, whether "more than friends" or not.

Just my thoughts. Sorry for the bad musical teminology too. Not my forte (haha).

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
