Lykke Li – Time Flies

My InterpretationTo me, this song is about a girl who feels all messed up. She's not stable emotionally or mentally. She's insecure, has mood swings, anxieties- and she's in love. She's afraid that it won't work because she's complicated and difficult to deal with. The boy in her life keeps her stable (she's on his "back" and things are easier) but he seems to think he can -fix- her. She wants to be able to do cope on her own, though.

  I think I agree..... it's like she really wants to be with him and make it work but she's apprehensive to show him all of her because she realizes her flaws, 1 being that she is seeking her career and still wants to experience more and that requires her leaving (don't want to miss my prime)...... as he begs for her to stay, but she feels like she's almost there.   I love to sing this song to my baby when he won't stop crying at night and wants me to coddle him to sleep.
  Anyone who's had a baby knows that you get weary and moody from a lack of sleep. When the baby finally falls asleep and its time to go, you stay a while becausae it feels so good to rub their back and hug them. But time flies into the next morning and you don't get any sleep.
  
  As for what the song means, I think she is describing the feeling one feels when they fall in love with someone. Falling in love is an amazing feeling. But staying in love is the hard part that many people now and days do not seem to think is worth fighting for. Too many divorces now and days. It's sad. Love is an action and a choice, it takes work.

  I'm here to inform that this song means much more to me than what you have implied. It is so meaningful to a mother whom wants her babies back! Perhaps to lost by death or other circumstances. Writing songs and or music doesn't always reflect the artist obvious message, however, I Love Love this song!

even though it seems like she's talking of a baby,
I still feel like she is gaining convidence to talk to someone, or to make the first move.

then again, it sounds like she's having a baby.

General CommentI feel that this song is about two lovers, however one of them is very ill - maybe even terminally. The way she sings it is very powerful. Shes carries an encredible amount of sadness but it sounds like there is also a mixture of hope (for better days or to live longer) and acceptance (if she is to die) there as well. Her number one concern during this whole ordeal is the person she loves referred to as her 'baby'.

The first two lines of the two verses...


I sit tight, don't want to miss the show
I hang on, don't want to miss my prime

- she's waiting for something that is out of her control and she doesnt want to miss out on the rest of her life, she could be young as she refers to her 'prime' indicating that she feels as if she hasn't lived a full life yet, however a person of any age could feel that way...


Fingers crossed, my time is coming now
Don't you go, my baby begs me so

- theres so much hope in the words 'fingers crossed', we can assume she is about to face what shes been waiting for (an operation or something?) and its life threatening, her partner is begging her not to die "dont you go, my baby begs me so".


Her partner obviously isnt dealing with it very well however she seems to have a good grip on the situation and understand it as well as how she's feeling...as she describes I get weak
I get weary
I miss sleep
I get moody
I'm in thoughts
I write songs
I'm in love
I walk on
her thought processes - so many different ones. but in the end its acceptance 'i walk on'

time flies (upon my babies back) means that there just simply isnt enough time to spend with the person who you are in love with. the time will fly by.. but its important to try and capture a moment with them insted of worrying about when your time with them runs out. even if she does die, time will go on and her partner will move on. time is inevitable and so is death... thats what i believe this song is about and i heard it when someone i knew passed away. i listened to it on repeat for days...

well tell me what you think about what this song means to me because im 17 and want to know if im any good at analysing songs. hehe.

  I thought pretty much the same thing but a different scenario. Like, I would imagine it as her leaving on tour possibly and moving on ("walking on") from someone who is possibly holding her back even though she loves that person.

General CommentI think this song is about her being scared of commitment.
how sometimes a person gets distant the more they care about a certain person.

the beginning i think shes saying that she wants to stay with him, she wants to be with him because shes intrigued with him, she might even love him so she wants to explore this feeling.

then the next verse hes sensing her pulling away so he tells her "dont leave" hes begging her to stay.

the chorus i think is everything she feels. how she loves him but yet she scared to get close so she walks on.

then the third verse they both have their fingers crossed that she wont go,shell stay. but she knows that her time to leave is coming soon.so he begs her to stay.

and i think in the end she decides that its too much, she walks on.

My InterpretationI don't know why, but whenever I hear of this song I think of my brother or of my dad. My brother has been suffering from cerebral palsy from birth and that disease has taken away the ability to walk and communicate with words. This song reminds me of him because of his innocence and his purity, just like a new born child.

Now, I think of my father when I hear this because he is living several miles away fighting in Iraq. The moment I hear this, it gives me hope that he will come home. That I shouldn't worry about the time; that will come and go. But a chance to see him again after 10 years... It will be worth all the wait.

General CommentI feel this song sounds about how she is in love with a guy that she knows it will never work out, or last. not because he doesn't want her but for some other reason maybe hes unfaithful or cheated and now she cant get over it but she still wants it to work and has hope.

(Stay a while, my baby wants me to, Don't you go, my baby begs me so) he does want her.

(Fingers crossed)- She has hope that they'll work out (my time is coming now) she knows she has to leave
(Don't you go, my baby begs me so)- begs her not to go hes wants this too.
(Time will fly, upon my baby's back)- she comforts him and explains that he will be fine, time flies before you know it your fine again
