No I don't need a reason to be breathin'
Just here doin' what I can
No I don't want a family who would damn me
And resent everything I am
I don't need to prove to all the ones who
Feel that I need to fit in
No I won't ever tell you that I failed you
I'd rather start life over again

No I'm sorry to say
There'll be no sacrifice today

No I can see it clearly
Why you feel me
Why you gotta bring me down
No I don't wanna fight you
Just to spite you
But I'm not afraid to take you out

No I'm sorry to say
There'll be no sacrifice today

Everybody expects me to break
But I'll never break down again
Everybody expects me to give up
But you'll never see me givin' in
Everybody wants me to lose
But I'll never lose who I am

No I'm sorry to say
There'll be no sacrifice today

No I'm sorry to say
There'll be no sacrifice today

Everybody expects me to break
But I'll never break down again
Everybody expects me to give up
But you'll never see me givin' in
Everybody wants me to lose
But I'll never lose who I am

No I'm sorry to say
There'll be no sacrifice today

No I'm sorry to say
There'll be no sacrifice today

No sacrifice today
No sacrifice today

Ok, this is crazy. I created an account specifically for this song. (I'm going to get other use out of it too.)

This song is CLEARLY about how, no matter what everyone else thinks, nothing could bring him down. He's feeling on-top-of-the-world almost.

"No I'm sorry to say, there'll be no sacrifice today."

Nothing you could do is going to bring me down.

"Everybody expects me to break but I'll never break down again Everybody expects me to give up but you'll never see me givin in Everybody wants me to lose but I'll never lose who I am"

Further evidence of the nothing bringing him down.

Maybe this was confusing, but I was trying to demonstrate how simple the meaning of this song is, and you can take it for face value. There are so many songs with such a deeper hidden meaning. Well, not this one.

I'm glad the 2010 winter olympics used this song. It sounds like a fight song. I like it. its about not giving up whether everyone wants to put you down or anything. You're at the top of the game.

definitely about sticking it to the world and saying eff you, you can't define me! Not giving up and being who you are I guess.. not letting others rule or control you. I love it!

This, in my opinion, is about the most emotional song on Scars & Souvenirs. Fell in love with it at a time that was really trying to me. Still in love with it. Quite simply put, when I sing this song, I'm telling my problems "hey, you can't intimidate me".

Best song on the Album after All or Nothing.. Its so inspirational.. My fav lines are:

Everybody expects me to break but i'll never break down again Everybody expects me to give up but you'll never see me givin in Everybody wants me to lose but i'll never lose who I am

and the music arrangement too is just the perfect one for this type of song.. And like KnightPrincess13 said even I created an account specifically for this song :)

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. Page

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again.
