Le Ballet D'Or Lyrics
When all a love needs is to be believed in
All those Springs come and gone
Past like trains of boxcars leaving
But I would be lying
If I didn't tell you the truth
They will leave you
They will leave you
Let's go dance to the siren's song
Come now
Leave your damage behind and gone
All that I need is to believe in something like a Summer
And I know you need somebody just like I do
And all these foxes go down in their barrows to hide
They will leave you
They will leave you behind
Let's go dance to the siren's song
Come now
Leave your damage behind and gone
Let's go down to the dance floor
Come now
Lose your mind at Le Ballet d'Or
Some are leaving
Some are lost
Some are leaving
But I'm not going at all
I'm not going anywhere at all
Now Autumn's fire is ashes on the breeze
And it spins away like dust on pearls
As Winter comes to usher in the evening
But all of these drummers go stand
on the hillsides above
They will leave you
They will leave you alone
Let's go dance to the siren's song
Come now
Leave you damage behind and gone
Let's go down to the dance floor
Come now
Love your mind at Le Ballet d'Or
Let's get out while the getting's good
Come Now
There's no one left in the neighborhood

These lyrics (on the page) suck... get it right!

are you kidding me? i think these lyrics are right. One of the best songs on Counting Crow's new album.

Actually, they were wrong, but I changed them to the correct ones.
It is a nice a song, though I listened to it too much and now it's kinda meh, but nonetheless, still pretty good. Nothing I would immediately turn on. Maybe on Saturdays.

Sorry I was so angry. Thanks for changing them. I like the song so I was bitter. haha

What's really fantastic about this song is everytime Duritz yells "they will leave you" all I hear is "I won't leave you" and I think that is so brilliant to be able for an artist to be saying one thing and allow listeners to hear something else. I love this song.

Don't know what this song is about but I like what it says in the album sleeve about who plays what instruments and when it gets to someone near the end it says "and climbing inside a grand piano and playing it like a harp, whatever that is called, because he did that at the end of Ballet D'or"

In an early 2008 live performance, Duritz explained the meaning of the song[1]:
“ This is about looking back at your life and realizing, if I just had done things a little differently, this could all have been a lot different. As the song starts off “Wasted time running scared when all love needs is to be believed in.” Which is an obvious thing to say, but not a simple thing to do. And he goes through the seasons in the song, it’s kind of a companion song to Omaha in a way, that he’s looking at his life these different ways and he’s looking at all the places where it didn’t have to go as wrong as it did. It’s just that if I had been able to see things a little differently, I could’ve done things a little differently. And he kind of comes to the conclusion that I’ve got to stop being the way I’ve been and do something different.
"This is about the point in the album where I start to see with a little more clarity.... and then I can't stop laughing. It's about looking at your life and thinking that if you could just have seen it a little more clearly... and just done things just a little differently... then everything might have been different. But it's too late for that, so you gotta deal with today and tomorrow." - Adam (2008 Soundstage)
