honest to god
i don’t even remember...
i don’t think that i’ve
ever felt this way;
honest, today,
i don’t even know my name;
i had to fall on the floor
for your hands to reach for me;
you tell me how you’d love
for me to stay;
you say it a lot, but
she used to say the same;

i believed her
and i’m starting to think
that i’ll believe you too,
but first i have to know...

that you’ll leave me whole;
just leave me whole
and i’ll be alright;
never let me go
and let me know if i ever might;
and i need you to know
to just wait for me to trust
and hold on because
no matter what you say
you can’t stop the world
that’s in my head;

i’ve lied when i’ve said
’i love you’ before...
with you, i don’t have
to lie anymore...

    "Honest to god I don't even remember, I don’t think that I’ve Ever felt this way;"

    A man is having strong feelings for someone, obviously.

    "Honest, today, I don’t even know my name;"

    He is so blind and dubious around her that he is oblivious to obvious things like his name.

    "I had to fall on the floor For your hands to reach for me;"

    He had to do something big to have her finally notice her.

    "You tell me how you’d love For me to stay; You say it a lot, but She used to say the same;"

    She'd start to say that he loved him but then again his past girlfriend had said that a lot too and he's not sure if he should trust her, like he did for his past relationship.

    "I believed her And I’m starting to think That I’ll believe you too, But first I have to know..."

    He believe his past girlfriend and he is starting to believe the new girl in his life.

    "That you’ll leave me whole; Just leave me whole"

    He is hoping that this relationship won't break him like his last one did. He is hoping that this time he won't break in the end and just be left "whole".

    "And I’ll be alright; Never let me go"

    Then everything will be all fine if the girl will just be able to maintain the relationship strong.

    "And let me know if I ever might; And I need you to know To just wait for me to trust And hold on because No matter what you say You can’t stop the world That’s in my head;"

    He is saying that he is still shaken from his last relationship and so he wants the new girl to wait for him to heal because she can't rush what's going on inside his own self.

    "I’ve lied when I’ve said ’I love you’ before... With you, I don’t have To lie anymore..."

    He wasn't true when he said he loved someone before but now he thinks he doesn't have to lie about it anymore.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
