Yeah, one of these days I'm gonna write you off
Have this tattoo removed once and for all
Wake up smiling in another life without you taking up all the space in my mind
Yeah, that's just a dream I'm living in
I walked out the door and then

[Chorus]
Can't even watch a sunset, listen to a song
Cause when I think I got you lit, WRONG
No matter how hard I try, to turn it off
You keep going on and on
You're never ever gone
You're never ever gone

When I think I can fool myself for awhile
I try to call up a friend, but when I start to dial
There's a number tingling in my finger tips
I say your name, I didn't mean to, it just kinda slipped
I just laughed it off, like I don't care but who am I kidding I swear

[Chorus]

Can't even watch a sunset, listen to a song
Cause when I think I got you lit, wrong!
No matter how hard I try, to turn it off
You keep going on and on
You're never ever gone
You're never ever gone

Girl, you're never ever gone

[Chorus]
Can't eve watch a sunset, listen to a song
Cause when I think I got you lit, wrong wrong!
No matter how hard I try, to turn it off
You keep going on and on
You're never ever...

Are you ever gonna leave me alone?
You're never ever gone
No, you're never ever gone
Never ever gone
Never ever gone

Its obvious, he has been trying so hard to forget that one girl and sure sometimes he thinks he has moved on but than something happens and he is back were he was. So now he knows that right now she will always be there on his mind and eventually sometime way down the road he will forget her.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
