You give us bread, you keep us warm
What I do for you in turn
I leave you with this memory stained
Between the sheets, under the rain
Your face is pale, your lips are red
Your eyes are dark, you might be dead
But I will hold you even then
Until you breathe and I am fed

Jodi, my dear, I'm sorry but I must disappear
I leave you with a song and a tear
Just please don't wash away
This is my crutch, you had me at the face and the touch
But I can only give you so much
Before it goes away
You could be my end
You could be my end

We can do this on our own

But you're still telling me
What I want, what I need
'til I can't even be
Here on my own

And in the dark and on the floor
The bottle caps, well they just pour
And you can tell I want you more
Beyond the few, beyond the storm
But this won't stay, yeah I confess
That I am not what you have guessed
I'm just a whore and nothing less
And I won't stop until I rest

Roll into town with thunder on our backs, heads are proud
We wander through your gates and your crowd
To ponder what we'll take
And though you are far, I keep you in a place in my heart
And never let the beast tear apart
What happened there in May
You could be my end
You could be my end

We can do this on our own

But you're still telling me
What I want, what I need
'til I can't even be
Here on my own

    Song Meaning

Just dropping in to let y'all know that everyone is entitled to their opinion on what the song means to you, but if you'd like the actual story, I will tell you the tale of how "Jodi" came to be. Her real name is, believe it or not, Jody. He just changed it to "protect her identity". Good job on the guy. Anyway, Meric and Logan came to our town for a little while, and she ended up dating him for the time he was there. Then, in May (as the song goes), he up and left her. This is not a song about a man trying to get over a woman who broke his heart, or a "controlling" woman. He's actually dumping her through the song. That's how she found out it was over. No "cooling off period", no "dust settling". Just a lousy way to break up with a really sweet girl.

It's definitely 'here on my own' Krzsiek

this song to me means that he has to move on, even if that means not talking for a period of time, but don't disappear while he's gone because he is so exhausted with the amount of energy he's put into the relationship. He is assuring everything will be alright after the dust settles, even though both parties may not be over it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
